A Critical Review of Angela Watercutter, 2015, “How drones changed the filming industry”.
The article “Drones Are About To Change How Directors Make Movies” by Angela Watercutter is very informative and insightful because the author gives the reader a great bit of information about what is happening around our movies. This article is written by an author working in a company called WIRED. This article is biased towards the people who love technology and filmmaking together. The author also made this article not too formal by having some illustrations like, changing “rain” into “Winter Storm Thor”.
The author concluded that having an aerial shot might be nice, but the author tried flying one herself and she stated that her dream of capturing beautiful aerial shots will be dashed as of her uncontrollable thumbs. She was also accompanied by a brand manager from Horizon Hobby, Steve Petrotto, and he gave the author an excellent lesson in taking cinematographic footage with the drone. The author knows it’s possible to create an awesome film with a drone as she has seen a short from Youtube called “Superman With a GoPro”.

(Fabian Chaundy, 2017) Who needs a huge gimbal just to take stabilised footage. (DL Cade, 2017) With a little “outside the box thinking”, filming a whole movie with just a drone is definitely possible. Both these articles shows the same video on their article showing the filming result of just the handheld drone and the result came out tremendous. The people in the video did a smart thing of getting just a drone rather than getting a camera, lens and a stabliser. Since then, a lot of drone making companies started to make their drones into a substitute for the handheld
Luke Bannister, is a sixteen year and a champion drone racer. As drones are becoming more popular around the world the first person to view the EPV racing is where a drone’s user puts on headsets and navigates with a real-time view from the camera mounted on board. Luke won the World Drone Prix in Dubai where it is the biggest world drone race. The British teenage drone pilot Luke Bannister attended Paris Drone Festival in Paris France September 4, 2016. Luke’s goal is to go to the University, become a pilot and fly a real plane one day. He first got into flying acrobatics at age of ten. Then when he was eleven he built his own planes at his local model aircraft club.
Referring back to the conference held on Wednesday afternoon, one of the most noticeable resolution states that drones should be implemented in working paper 1.1. The conference began with the topic regarding this resolution. Some delegates are questioning the effectiveness of taking drones as a resolution to be considered and believe that it is a short-term solution.
Besides film making, drones are being used in all manner of ways. Park Rangers are using drones to check for wildfires, electricians are using them to check on power lines, and even Amazon is using them to deliver packages. I can see the future with drones is going to be a little bumpy at first wit all the phobia and controversies from them, but I think the will start to become more vital and entertaining in our daily lives. Film makers from the entire spectrum are using drones in unique ways. CorridorDigital on YouTube are using drones to simulate something you would see out of a video game. People are getting involvd with trying to come up with laws to protect those who use drones whether recreationaly or
James Cameron’s Avatar has been hailed by movie critics as one of the greatest and most pivotal films of all time. A critic for the Detroit Times stated in his critique of the: “I have seen the future of films, and it is Avatar (rottentomatoes.com).” Critics and audiences alike were entranced by the fast paced and intense science fiction film that was released during the Thanksgiving holiday in 2009. Many were marveled by the immense amount of detail, dedication, and creativity that it took to produce the movie: “Big money, big risk, pretty big reward. That's been his consistent pattern, and it's high time to give credit where credit is overdue: James Cameron delivers (rottentomatoes.com)”. Others were impressed by the technology used
Drones: they’re here, they know all the places where you can try and hide from them, but don’t worry, because all they want to do is take your selfie.
Movies today are filmed through cell phones and make it to the big screen and others are all done digitally through computers. Although the resources are easily within our reach, the labor and quality is present through the few consistent things that are accomplished rather than a many inconsistent. John Nelsons agrees by saying, “Less is more, rather than throwing a million things at the viewer, why not just a hundred really good things” (qtd. In Marshall).
Drone Deliveries in US Cities Face Too Many Obstacles to Thrive" is written by Richard Williams. The article has pros like the strength of the thesis and how the entire article stays on task, but there are also cons like the conclusion of the article which adds new information and does not bring together the entire article. (151) The overall summary of the article includes a multitude of reasons as to why drone deliveries will not be a successful idea in the advancing world of technology. In the article, the author does not believe that drones will be a normal use for deliveries.
Recently, drones have been hovering over Croatia for paparrazi to get a glimpse of the production going on for the upcoming “Star Wars Episode VIII”. The drones were able to capture snippets of the Millenium Falcon and the new Rebel Alliance base being used on location until plans of shooting these drones down were announced. This entrepreneurial method, though stealthy, was short-lived.
Drones can be as small as a fly or an ant and also as big as a jet. That is a big difference from a fly to a jet. One regular drone can pick up 30 pounds. Really that is pretty good for a drone. They are pretty good for there size. It can weight 0.55 pounds to 55 pounds. Really that is very light for technology. Another facts is you can be good for hiding Well there are some more facts about drones. Drones can carry a baby from a hospital and Carry a pack of 6 big 2 liter pops which weights 2.41 pounds each bottle in total of 14.46 for a long time. They can carry heavy items like a medical supply. And it can carry 50% of it’s weight. That is very good for a drone. It can also lift a brick that is good so if you want to build a shack of bricks. They can lift a lot more things to carry payloads. A Well that’s it for the second pro for
Drones are regarded as one of the edgy technology applications that are in a vigorous development cycle all over the world. Drone is a term used to describe unmanned airborne vehicle (UAVs) without a pilot. Drones can be controlled wirelessly using remote control and communication protocols as Wi-Fi or high frequency waves. Drones can navigate with a degree of autonomy using onboard Microcomputers. They have different types, sizes and degrees of autonomy. Each type of drones has its own ethical issues for usage. Drones have invaded many professions due to its high speed, accuracy, low cost, do not have to be rested and the most important thing is that it can handle dangerous missions without risking humans lives.
Ever since I was in elementary school, I always had large dreams and aspirations. Growing up, my dream job was to be a “fire truck driver.” My fascination with first responders and emergency management was large; I always wondered what happened when someone placed a 911 call. Whenever I saw an emergency vehicle responding on the street or in the air, I always wondered what steps were needed to put that response into action.
A remote control helicopter designed for recording aerial adventures. Way more compact than a DJI Phantom as the world’s most popular drone. This Parrot Bebop Drone, it has been equipped with a 14 mega pixels fisheye camera. The Parrot Bebop Drone takes video and pictures of the world in a 180° field with remarkable image quality. Endowed with the fully digital technology of image stabilisation, it captures video despite the movements inherent in aerial
Henry Jenkins describes convergence as ‘a situation where multiple media systems coexist and where media content flows fluidly across them’ (2006: 282). An important part of the information transferred across platforms are the techniques utilised in creation. Digital technologies have no doubt had a large impact on moving images and how they are developed and produced in the modern world. There has been the introduction of inexpensive consumer digital recording devices, and the ability to create a video with mobile phones rather than needing a separate dedicated device. This has led to growth in the creation of amateur moving images on platforms such as YouTube in a variety of forms. As well as inspiring the creation of new areas of production, digital advances have enabled further evolution in more traditional areas. Early cinematic pioneers dabbled with in-camera trickery in order to create fantastical scenes and amaze viewers, and this principle carries forward to today. Matt Reeve’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) is a good example of the intriguing applications of digital technology in order to achieve these old goals in a potentially better way. As with the introduction of any new way to achieve a goal, the opportunities available to content creators have multiplied with the growth in the variety of digital techniques. The power particular innovations in technology can have in their contribution is perhaps underlined by the impact they have had in less revered
With the use of aerial photography, cinematographers can capture unique and visually stunning images that are unlike the ones they get from shooting at a ground level.
The film industry has continuously changed since its inception due to rapid technology advancements. Camera technology has been a key factor that has influenced the growth of filmmaking. The first motion picture in the world was produced in the early 1880s, and the first public screening occurred ten years later. It didn’t take long for the quality of films to improve as new filmmaking equipment emerged. Ever since the first movie was produced, the film industry has been continuously changing in response to emerging filmmaking technology. Introduction of digital photography and digital data storage along with the development of internet significantly influenced the film industry (Barsam, 2015). These technologies contributed
