In the essay “A Message to Garcia” an American soldier was chosen to deliver a message to General Garcia the leader of rebel forces during the Spanish American war. The soldier does eventually deliver the Presidents message without knowing what the message contained. This solder eventually and not without obstacles and doubting times did so without question. This soldier completed his task without asking how or why and without delay. In addition, this soldier was able to accomplish this with every imaginable obstacle that could be found when encountering a hostile country on foot.
Allow me to introduce you to the soldier that the President chose to carry out this crucial task. Colonel Andrew Summers Rowen was charged with this task. The President did do his due diligence prior to selecting Colonel Andrews and the few things that came to mind while reading about this soldier. Im sure where the reasons why the Bureau of Military Intelligence recommended the Colonel. A quality in people that are willing to not only take on responsibility, but to see it through to the finish line; these people do not need others to look over their shoulders they are able to accomplish their tasks independently.
