For example, in 2010 17-year-old, Andrew Conley strangled his 10-year-old brother, Connor Conley, to death with his bare hands. After confessing to murder of his brother he told investigators, “he identifies with Dexter” (Thompson). Showtime drama, DEXTER, is about a man who lives a double life as a blood spatter analyst within the Miami Police Department and a serial killer. When taken to court Conley confessed to killing his brother and said, “he had an uncontrollable urge for murder and wanted to model himself after the TV serial killer Dexter…I feel just like him” (Thompson). It is quite startling to hear a 17-year-old say he identifies with a serial killer. Also, during trial Andrew stated, the day after he killed Connor he was fighting
“I can kill a man, dismember his body, and be home in time for Letterman. But knowing what to say when my girlfriend's feeling insecure... I'm totally lost”-Dexter Morgan (Hall, 2007). Dexter Morgan is a fictional serial killer from Showtime’s series “Dexter”, but the writers and actors have portrayed a real life serial killer. Manuel Prado is the real Dexter Morgan. Prado was a Miami cop who started with smaller crime and worked his way up to becoming a serial killer. ”Prosecutor David Waksman told the Miami Herald: "He was very cold. He was doing robberies and went home and slept like a baby. He was proud of what he did."” (International, 2012) Real life serial killers do not have any empathy. They kill their victims and then return to
Gary Ridgway grew up like any other ordinary suburban kid. He had a problem of wetting the bed which his mother would make fun of him and embarrass him in front of family and friends. As a young teen, he was always getting into trouble such as stabbing a six year-old boy in the ribs when he was a young teen. In high school Gary continued to go down hill and get bad grades. Gary graduated high school and joined the Navy. While he was in Vietnam, he discovered prostitutes and ended up getting sexually transmitted diseases. Soon after being home from Vietnam, Gary was killing and raping prostitutes on the streets of Seattle, Washington. Gary would go on to murder about 71 young women who he targeted because they were either prostitutes or runaways.
Jeffery Dahmer, better known as the “Milwaukee Cannibal” was a worldwide known serial killer and registered sex offender. He brutally rape, dismembered, and practiced cannibalism on his 17 victims between the years of 1978 to 1991. His victims ranged from 14 to 33 years of age. Dahmer’s killing spree started in 1978 with his first victim being Steven Hicks. Steven Hicks was a 19-year-old male that was hitchhiking when Dahmer picked him up. Dahmer brought him to his home and had drinks with him, and once Hicks was ready to leave Dahmer hit him over his head with a dumbbell and straggled him until he was dead. Later dismembering Hick’s body, taking flesh from bone, he scattered the bones around his yard and hid the flesh in a crawl space underneath the house.
Although serial killers come in all shapes and sizes, there is a general profile that criminologists go by when trying to profile a criminal. The typical serial killer is a white male in his late 20s to early 30s, kills within his own race, his targeted victims share specific characteristics, and his method of murder is “hands on” in means of strangulation. The types of serial killers include visionaries, missionaries, lust killers, thrill killers, gain killers, and power seekers. Depending on the type of serial killer, their profile may change; for example, certain clues from missionary-type killers can help decide their religious affiliation. Also, certain types of serial killers may generally have different age groups. Most serial

Arthur Shawcross is a man that committed his life to killing people. He was born on June 6, 1945 in Kittery, Maine. “Serial killer Arthur Shawcross was born on June 6, 1945, and died on November 10, 2008 while serving a life sentence for the murder of 11 women” (Arthur Shawcross 2015). Arthur is what is called a serial killer/murder. The term “serial murder” from our class notes means, “The killing of several victims in three or more separate incidents over time (separated by weeks or more)” (Miyuki 2017: Chapter 9, 27). Soon after Arthur was born, his family moved to Watertown, New York. Shawcross claims when he was a child, he was abused by his mother and the relationship he had with his father was not much better. Later on Donnelly starts to talk about popular culture and its influences on the show. She says, “Popular culture thrives on explanation as a way of abating fears of violence and fears of Otherness” (Donnelly 21) which season seven and eight are all about. Dexter searches constantly for a real reason to explain why he is the way he is. He wants a better understanding of himself to make himself fit in. Morals have been developed to single out the abnormal and throughout his whole life Dexter was singled out. The consumers of the show can identify a killer as a monster, making the person less than human in our minds. Therefore if Dexter thought the same as us; killing a killer is the same as squishing a bug because both are lesser than humans and their lives do not make an impact on ours. Dexter realizes in season eight that he is an even worse monster that he believed himself to be.

They is a high possibility that they are suffering from depression and anxiety too. After killing someone the killer feels relieved. They also feel

A serial killer is a person who kills a number of people. They act in a series of 5 or more murders with a break period between each murder. Serial killers can go for months and years before they are usually caught. The victim is most likely the same for every killer- a prostitute or a hitchhiker -someone who, if they were to go missing would probably not be noticed (cite). Their victims may also have the same or similar attributes in gender, age, race or general look. Serial killers also stick by their modus operandi closely but may change it with when needed.

Have you ever wondered why some people love art and music, and some love science and math? These individuals love math or art because they get a sense of relaxation and excitement from these activities. Serial killers are the same way they love to kill people and have lots of different motives for why they kill them. A serial killer is a person who kills repeatedly.
