In the comic book “Understanding Rhetoric” the viewer is guided through some key points in conducting research. These key points include primary sources, secondary sources ,source searching, paraphrasing etc. From pages 181-201 these key points are explained in it’s relation to conducting research. Like any great researcher one must prepare themselves for research. Understanding the difference between a primary and secondary source is important because it allows you to know which source is most appropriate to support a particular claim or argument. A primary source is an original or first hand account that provides an inside view. While in contrast, a secondary source provides a second hand information that has been digested, analyzed, reworded, or interpreted. The book recommends to devise a well thought out approach accompanied by tactics that allow you to organize these research findings. Such as storing research findings in accessible places, labeling, creating folders, etc. This will allow one to keep organization in a time consuming process.
In research projects it is great to have an approach to locate viable sources so the book recommends conducting advanced/ narrow searches to aid in finding the most appropriate sources. In

Nonetheless the projects were considerably fun and intriguing. I am interested in researching sustainability because I not only have experience but admiration for sustainability in general. I enjoy gaining new perspectives and new ways to organize infrastructure. In particular I want to research sustainable communities who meet energy demands and food security with the use of sustainable practices. I would like to examine how the results of sustainability in these communities reshape equality, environmental health, and human
Primary sources enable the researcher to get as close as possible to what actually happened and is hands on. Secondary
There are many ways of searching for relevant data sources such as the internet, books, previous reports and speaking to the team. However, you must take in to account how long it will take to research these different sources, whether they are available and how accurate and unbiased they are.
Erik Larson shapes a story of suspense and excitement through juxtaposition, foreshadow, fantasy, and direct quotes. Through these different strategies, he is able to hold the reader’s attention while describing true history in a contemporary way. Larson takes Truman Capote’s idea of a nonfiction novel and creates his own story of a murderer in important history.
“Make your marketing so useful people would pay for it”(Baer). Marketers use wild variations of strategies to appeal to their consumers, which materializes ridicule among marketing companies. Commercialized businesses accommodate useful tactics to appeal to their audience. In a mock press conference, MagnaSoles, “magical” shoe inserts, are analyzed humorously. In their humorous press release to the public, The Onion perceives the marketing industry in a satirical way by explaining their purpose of effectively using the rhetorical devices ethos, logos, and pathos.
“The Dark Knight,” a movie directed and produced by Christopher Nolan, depicts the way a system of justice deals with terrorism. If an archetype is defined as a symbol that exists instinctively in the collective consciousness of the human race, the terrorism in Batman The Dark Knight represents an archetype through the violence, murder of the innocent, mayhem and mass destruction. Governments often lay down laws and procedures for a country to function, and to avoid anarchy. The laws promote wellness, equality, and justice, but sometimes even these entities of justice are forced to break the law for a greater good. In contemporary U.S. history, President Barack Obama, the head of one of the most powerful
In Waiting For Superman, director Davis Guggenheim wants the American people to become aware of the education crisis taking place in the country so they can realize that drastic change is needed. The Music and visuals play a fundamental role in presenting the severity of the problem with education in America. Thirty minutes into the video, a cartoon is shown to portray how contrasting views and regulations do not truly allow an educator to do their job. The cartoon design is innocent and there is calm, soothing music in the background. The music and cartoon visual choice are meant to mimic how Americans handicap themselves with unnecessary rules, when in reality, it should be as smooth as the short cartoon. In addition, later in the video,
William Golding’s book Lord of the Flies focuses mainly on a group of boys’ who have been stranded on an uninhabited island where they face many problems with themselves and others. One of the many dilemma’s within this story was the division of power between Ralph and Jack. They both had qualities of a leader, but they had different intentions with where they wanted to go; Jack was primarily the villain in this story showing savagery, while Ralph was civilized. So, why do the boys’ join someone who is cruel? Jack knows that he can manipulate their fears and use activities that are relatable to them because they are still little kids. Although it might seem devious, Jack is intelligent by using these tactics because they prove to be
Introduction: John’s domination over the Narrator is evident from the beginning of the short story. The Narrator remains unknown and takes the identity of John’s wife not an individual human being. This identity, further explored, becomes her personality because she obeys John’s every command.
Week three’s devotional really touched me. Many people think they can do everything on their own, that they do not need God in their life. I feel that we all need God to help us get through the challenges in our lives, so we can grow and learn from those challenges. John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you” (NASB). John 14:26 supports my feelings when it comes to needing God, as He will teach us.
Secondary sources describe, discuss, interpret, comment upon, analyze, evaluate, summarize, and process primary source, while primary source provides direct or firsthand evidence about an event, object, person, or work of art. The organization my portfolio is based on, is extremely big with five different segments. However, since my main focus will be in the parks and resorts, I will obtain both primary and secondary resources to complete my research. I will obtain autobiographies of Walt Disney to provide a brief history on the first development of resorts and parks. Any interviews, and research data that was already obtain by research. In addition, I will retrieve literature reviews on article, as well as, articles from the Belhaven data
In this cartoon, the artist captures what standardized testing does for students which, according to the cartoon, is absolutely nothing. The cartoonist uses labeling to indicate the he is referring to the expression “ Square peg, Round hole.” This is posted on a sign behind the student so that the audience is drawn to it after looking at the student. This allows the audience to understand the cartoon. Otherwise, the audience might not know that the student is being compared to a round hole. The analogy here is comparing students and standardized testing to a square peg and a round hole. This allows the audience to understand that standardized testing does not work. The exaggeration here is that standardized testing could
Rhetorical Superheroes may be all around the world, but if you take a deeper look at all of them, some might stand out as a little more “super” to you. When I think about Rhetorical Superheroes, there is one off the top of my head that is important to me. His name is Jason Ren and he is currently a student at Harvard University. He was someone who made an impact in the community I group up in through powerful language expressed by his actions volunteering and helping others. I was fortunate enough to know Jason personally as he was a good friend of mine who I played soccer with for many years. We would hang out a lot and have shared many good memories with each other.
For the primary audience- which may include the person struggling with obesity, the fitness trainer that works to help the client stay healthy and in shape, and the dietitian who regulates and monitors the patient’s food intake- a booklet would suffice. The booklet should be engaging for all groups no matter their educational level. It should go into depth, so that the dietitian can accurately access the problem’s that the patient might be facing. It should also be something that the person who may have obesity can comprehend because they might need something extra to push them towards the right direction of a healthy lifestyle. The booklet might include some diet and exercise tips that the patient can use in order to be healthy, if they don’t have access to a dietitian or trainer.
The methods used In this report was form finding informations by researching books and academic journal findings.
The aims of literature search are multiple. For starters, it is a necessary preparation for literature review that is to say, after searching for existing knowledge, we may have a deeper insight into research we are going to conduct. Additionally, it is an appropriate approach to update knowledge and identify a quite narrow gap for further investigation.
