From 1820 to 1850, Sectionalism in America increased due to differences in regional economies, westward expansion, and growing abolitionism. These three clauses were the reasons there were two major sections in the United States back in this time period. There was the rich, wealthy, business owners and entrepreneurs and the poor, slave and labor workers. Sectionalism defined these two people groups. From 1820 to 1850 there were major differences in the Northern and Southern regions of America. In the South, slavery was a common factor. These slaves were used for forced labor in producing materials and and goods to be shipped from the North to other places, also known as trade. The South was known for agriculture while the North was known for manufacturing and shipping these items produced in the South to trade with other regions in America. In 1819, there was a solution to end all confusion and trouble with the freemen and slaves. 36°30° stated that anything below this point was a slave state, and anything above it was free. At the time, the South wanted to expand slavery and spread farther than just the U.S. , or Manifest Destiny. But the North did not. The North did not support slavery at the time, which is why everyone in the U.S. other than the South was against westward expansion. When The U.S. annexed Texas, the industry and agriculture expanded just like the North and the South. Texas gave the U.S. more room to plant, live, and continue on with slavery. This was known as The Texas Revolution. This was conflict between the two nations, Mexico and Texas, which ended with Texas becoming a part of the United States and becoming its own republic nation.
