“Do Not Weep, Maiden, for War is Kind”
“In wartime, truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.” This famous quote was once said by one of the greatest prime minister in the history of Britain Winston Churchill. Prime Minister Churchill famous quote, during World War II, depicts the same meaning in the poem “Do Not Weep, Maiden, for War is Kind” by Stephen Crane. In the poem “Do Not Weep, Maiden, for War is Kind”, Stephen Crane writes the truths and lies about war which many people had heard one or the other in different situations which he phrases in his poem. This poem puts a spotlight on the soldier's love ones and the soldier at the same time which depicts the truths and lies when they are told during war. Furthermore, I felt many raw emotions while reading the very heartfelt poem “Do Not Weep, Maiden, for War is Kind.” Stephen Crane wrote the poem so beautifully that any reader can be hooked on it from the very first line and their eyes will still be glued onto the very last line in the poem. The poem “Do Not Weep, Maiden, for War is Kind” is simply amazing poem for many reasons including how Crane put attention on a complicated matter in society back then and which can be used for today’s society also, but also because of Stephen Crane word choices he used throughout the poem to emphasize the poem’s deeper meaning, the imagery that used most of the human senses that helps the reader to truly capture the poem, and its deep symbolic
