Although Vince Lombardi may have given a famous motivational speech, his wasn’t the only important event that was happening that day. There were many other events that was happening as well for example on the same day of Vince’s speech was the Vietnam War. Vince adapted Imagery,Metaphor, and similes in his speech,What It takes to be number one. He uses those words because the words granted the audience motivation to feel like a king.Vince gave a speech on the gigantic open field that they made history on,winning the superbowl. Vince gave this speech at the super bowl on the field, and it was 3 years before his death, the speech was given on jan 20th 1963.Lombardi suggests using metaphor, simile, and imagery so that people shouldn’t just …show more content…
Taking it back,as it may sounds lombardi in reality he also faces the reality of facing rivals of other teams which also brings out the competitiveness in himself for his team to win.Every time a football player goes to ply his trade he's got to play from the ground up - from the soles of his feet right up to his head”Being the top alpha is the only rule Lombard sets for his team, he doesn’t need players who thinks having second place is okay only the mindset that being number one is the only place is the best. Players who keeps their head up and never down is the one he wants, he doesn’t need players that won’t push their boulders in order to win. Being a coach may be a hard position but Lombardi was that coach who was there to keep pushing his team. Lombardi may have been a coach that was harsh only wanted commitment and want his team to be number one,not second. A lesson is that there are options, you want to win you go give it your all but if you think it’s alright to be second place there isn’t any place for that just only first place. Metaphors, much of this was seen
What is supposed to be one of the most prestigious honors in all of sports has become a joke in the NFL. Calling the Pro Bowl the NFL’s All-Star game is an insult to All-Star games. It is a sham.
A speech from the movie “Remember the Titans,” (2000) brings out the importance and reasoning for the movie to be made. The Gettysburg Speech, by Coach Herman Boone is very strong and straight to the point of the movie. Coach Herman brings the movie to life with his speech about playing the game on a battlefield. He talks about how the fight for lives were fought on the same field as the football team were playing on to fight for their lives. This speech is meant for any age group, although it is specifically addressed to ones who play football. Coach Herman Boone uses the rhetorical appeals of logos, pathos, and ethos to inspire the football players to remove all their hate to become an actual team.
Coach Vince Lombardi of the Green Bay Packers made the statement “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” HAving read the story about Timm Rosenbach in The Main Event, I would infer that he would disagree with Lombardi’s statement.
Some Say that Mark Dantonio is the best coach out there and has some very comeback like quotes like this one “I’m very proud of our football team, and I’m very proud of the way our football team handled themselves after the game as well. You don’t have to disrespect people. If they want to make a mockery of it,so be it. Their time will come. (247sports,2017).”
Records weigh heavily in the highly competitive world of college football. Every season a coach puts his career on the line and when games are lost, so is their job. Several coaches who have had the same lack of success that Paterno has had lately have lost their jobs. Bob Davie was fired from his job at Notre Dame after a 6-6 season record with the Irish in 2001. John Mackovic lost his coaching position half way through his 2003 campaign with the Arizona Wildcats with a 30-34 win/loss record. These coaches don’t match Paterno’s career overall, but are equivalent in their last five seasons with their respective programs.
"If winning isn't everything, then why do they keep score?" -Vince Lombardi I think this quote represents competitiveness because when you're playing with your friends at the park usually you just play for fun while on an actual court you play to win and you don't feel good no matter how hard you tried in the game if you lose, you feel mad. Victor shows a lot of this he tries his best but when he wins he is happy because he put in the work and he got the win, when he loses then he is frustrated because he played his heart out and still lost.
Starting off the speech Tomlin says, “For you see, 13 years ago, today, I sat where you sit. ”pg (1) This statement establishes authority because he is relating to them by saying it wasn’t that long ago that he was in their places. Tomlin comments“We have to exhibit...the honor, the integrity..” pg(5) This quote maintains authority because he is saying that all of them, including him should be held to a higher standard. According to Mike Tomlin, “Not unlike my football team when I stand before them minutes before we burst open the locker room doors. ”pg(4)
Every person ever associated with football knows how the game is played. They know every rule, play, stat, and anything else that can be recorded. There was a certain one of these people, though, that stood out from the rest. This was a man by the name of Vince Lombardi. Most people generally know who Vince Lombardi was. They know him as the former, and most famous, coach of the Green Bay Packers back in the late fifties and early sixties. They also recognize him as the man the trophy awarded to the Super Bowl winner, the Lombardi Trophy, is named after. This is all common knowledge in the football world. Do any of these people know who Vince really was? Do they know what he did to the game of football? Do they know that he changed the
When asked who is the greatest coach to lead a NFL team to the Super Bowl, Vince Lombardi’s name would be mentioned. He took the worst team in the NFL and transformed them to be the best. His team succeeded to win 6 divisional titles, 5 NFL championships, and 2 back to back Super Bowls. Vince Lombardi was both a visionary and ethical leader by leading his team through a new way of systematic thinking and obstacles. In this essay, I will state claims on how he became a visionary leader. Two core concepts came to play while researching his life. The first was how he displayed inspirational motivation while guiding his players to the Super Bowl and painting a vision. Secondly, he displayed team dimensions by knowing how to balance a team and also earning mutual respect. Later, I will state claims on how he was an ethical leader. First, he used reflective thinking, system 2 in critical thinking by using some decision making no one has ever used to ultimately win the Super Bowl. He also used the Three P’s (principles, purpose, and people) concept in the ethical leadership lesson on how he used those three principles to reach a common goal and display excellence in all we do. Additionally, I will tie his visionary and ethical leadership styles into my personal relevance and use some examples. Finally, I will conclude with a summary of the main points and end with a couple of quotes.
No longer could he berate a player until they did the play right; these players would just walk off the field. While Lombardi never gave up his hot attitude, he did tone it down quite a bit for the NFL. It was this learning curve that eventually led him to Green Bay, where his coaching dreams were realized. A readily apparent lesson that I picked up from reading Vince is that hard work and dedication can lead you to your goals, no matter how high those goals may be.
First, I hope you are doing well. Second, touching base on the highly viewed, across all counties NFL / Cars.com opportunity presented / discussed mid-August. In sports, there are many motivational speeches told to a player or team to reach an ultimate goal. In the movie Any Given Sunday, Al Pacino plays Tony D’Amato, the head coach of the Miami Sharks, a fictitious professional football team. Al Pacino faces much adversity throughout the movie and by the end, he must bring his team together before “the biggest battle of [their] professional lives.” In the locker room before their game, Al Pacino gives his team a speech that gives them the motivation to fight and win.
When Lombardi instituted the rule that players could not drink standing at a bar he was implementing the effect of impression management. The book describes impression management as a set of behaviors that people use to protect their self-image or change the way they are seen by others. The book also teaches us the two main goals of impression management which is to minimize bad and to maximize good. Minimize bad by avoiding blame for poor performances or ask for forgiveness. Maximizing good by generating respect and liking from other people. Although not all players were drinking alcohol or frequenting bars, the ones that were had to keep a good image for the team. For the Townsfolks who were frequenting the bars that the parkers were frequenting,
One reference that stood out to me was the golden rule, he said, “Let us remember the golden rule, ‘do unto others as you will have them do unto you.’” Using a common phase like the golden rule serves to reengage the audience, and in this case also transitioned into a new section of the speech, which talked about the sanctity of human life and world leader’s responsibility to protect life. Other notable phrases the Pope used include: “implementing a culture of care…” and talking about families noting the, “Richness and beauty of family life.” To round out the speech, the Pope had a nice, definitive ending, simply saying, “God Bless America.”
"Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once and a while; you don't do things right once and a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit, and unfortunately so is losing. There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game, and that is first. I have finished second twice in my time at Green Bay, and I don't ever want to finish second again. There is a second place bowel game, but it is a game for losers played by losers. It has always been an American zeal to be first in anything we do, and to win, and to win, and to win (Lombardi)."
