In “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Catherine Perkins Gilman, the narrator’s thoughts and mental sickness led to madness and feeling less accepted by her family.

The narrator is afraid of being less accepted due to her sickness. She “had no intention of telling [John]” about the wallpaper as “he would make fun of [her]. She feared being less accepted, so she avoided talking to John about the situation with the wallpaper.

The narrator later on feels less accepted by her own husband. She “believes John is beginning to notice” that she’s doing better even though she claims she isn’t. She “doesn’t like the look in his eyes”. She felt as if he only “pretended to be loving and kind”.

She also feels less accepted due to the fact that nobody can relate
