In Stephen Chbosky’s teenage drama film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, he expresses how human relations are essential to growth. Charlie’s aunt molested him every weekend when he was young. Throughout his life he blocked out the memories and flashbacks of his molestation, but they are brought back by his friend and lover Sam. Charlie and Sam become friends in the beginning of the film, but quickly fall in love. Charlie’s English teacher is one of the first people he connects with in school. They both have a deep passion for books and bond over them. Charlie’s relationship with Sam and Mr. Anderson are necessary to his growth throughout the film. Sam teaches Charlie about love, and unconsciously causes him to become in touch with his past
