Completely and accurately summarizing the book Black Hearts would take more than the paragraph that is being devoted. Black Hearts is a very descriptive and well written novel about the 1st platoon Bravo Company 1-502nd infantry Regiment’s deployment to Iraq. The whole book is written on true events that not only impacted the men of the platoon, but also the environment in the area of operations (AO) as a whole. In summary, of all the events leading up to the major event of the book, the platoon began its downward spiral with all the devastating losses they endured so early into the deployment which caused a quick and steady drop in morale and ethical decision making. To make matters worse, the men felt as though the leadership was failing
years in a row the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year awards. At one point, Devaney joked around and told the press, “I don’t expect to win enough games to be put on NCAA probation. I want to win enough to warrant an investigation” (“Bob Devaney Quotes”). In 1970 and 1971 his team won back to back national championships and he took his team to nine bowl games. He won three Orange Bowl games in a row, Bob Devaney definitely took the Nebraska Cornhuskers to new heights on the football field, so there was some apprehension when Devaney retired and his assistant coach Tom Osborne took over, but Osborne created his own positive changes and legacy. Osborne's type of coaching was a bit of a change from Devaney's.
Is not knowing the pain that you will face in the future a good thing or a bad thing?
When a mentor gives you lemons, you make the lemonade. In the book The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, the person most important in Bod Owens’s life is his mentor, Silas. Bod Owens did not have the average teenage life; he was raised by two dead parents who live in a graveyard, and was not allowed to leave the graveyard unless his parents gave him permission. The lady on the Grey is the symbol of death that mentors Silas, which gives her and Silas a similar “job” in their afterlife.
Ernest J. Gaines story: A Lesson Before Dying, tells the story of a young man and his journey to become a man before his wrongly accused death sentence, and the journey of the people who helped him feel like he was. The story highlights two figures: (delete: higher than any other and that is) Grant and Jefferson, and (add: highlights) their journey together to an unlikely friendship. By comparing and contrasting the book (add: and) the movie, we get a more complete vision (add: of the emotion of the ) story from the book rather than the movie.
Many of the characters from After the First Death have been stripped of their innocence. Raymond, a little kid that was on the bus that was hijacked was forced to eat candy which made him think he was a bad kid since he was a “late baby.” Kate had to lie through the story and talk to the terrorist because she knew if she didn’t he would kill her right away. Ben’s father sent him to deliver a message to the terrorist and they thought he was lying so they held him captive and torched him till he told them truth and he felt like a coward for it. Characters Raymond, Kate, and Ben, all victims, had their innocence taken away from them as the hijacking went on.
In the book A Long Way Gone the children are being stripped of their childhood. They do not get to experience the carefree childhood that most children have. They deserve to be having fun with their families and and not be scared and alone while being dragged into the war. A quote from the book that really explains how the children are living a stressful childhood is “I was afraid to fall asleep, but staying awake also brought back painful memories.” These children should not be sleep deprived nor terrified to fall asleep, this will cause growing problems for the child. They will not have all the physical and mental growth they need in life especially if they constantly stressed. Another example of them not having a carefree childhood is they’re
Usually when two people’s point of views are depicted in a story, the books are separated to help the reader understand which character is thinking or saying what. In these two books, the points of view from different people is a reoccurring theme among the pages. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, points of view from two afghan women are portrayed. At first, the story of one woman is told, then the book is separated into a different part telling the story of the other woman. When the stories become associated with one another, the book is separated once again into a different part, telling their stories together, but with chapters separating their points of view on the shared story.
The author, Robert Cormier, of After the First Death believes three particular characters have had their innocence stolen. Raymond's innocence was stolen when Artkin forced him to eat the drugged candy. Kate’s innocence was stolen when she realized she had to give her life to save the children's life. Furthermore, Ben’s innocence was stolen when he was told that the plan was for him to give the terrorist the information he knew. Raymond, Kate, and Ben experience their innocence being stripped away during the course of the hijacking.
Parents in the real world have children that die, and these parents don’t say they wish they never would have had their child. These parents simply understand that a life is still treasured even if its shorter than its supposed to be. The consequence of the decision was Ian leaving his family out of anger, Hannah dying, and Louise is left alone. For Ian watching Hannah die from an incurable disease made their whole marriage and the whole story of their shared life’s, unbearable. Louise is sad mourning the death of her daughter writing a book. In the end the death of Hannah affected both Ian and Louise tearing them apart.
The book Black Hearts opened my eyes to how leadership from a single Officer can have a grappling effect on such a wide range of soldiers from the lowest of ranks. One of the best takeaways from Black Hearts is to never do anything: illegal, unethical, or immoral. Although this is a easy statement to repeat, Black Hearts demonstrates the difficulties that lie behind these words. It has also painted a picture of how leadership can topple extremely quickly from a top down view. The Army is portrayed in a bad light throughout the book relentlessly. This is due to the concentration of poor leadership of the 1-502nd Regiment (Referred to as “First Strike”), a battalion of the 101st Airborne Division.
This introductory statement sets the novel off with a mysterious tone. It signifies the journey and experiences of the narrator that would be further explored and understood in the novel. When broken down, I believe each sentence in this statement represents important passage in Najwa’s life. Analyzing each sentence will give more insights into the experiences that brought about the statement. Overall this statement alludes to a hard life of life changing experiences.
The novel “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Garcia Marquez recounts the story where Santiago Nasar was accused of taking the virginity of Angela Vicario and therefore killed. The society depicted in the novel is one where appearances are important to the townsmen regardless of the cost of it. Using symbolism, Garcia Marquez exposes the superficial nature of the town and their flaws.
As the rapid development of internet, the technology of wireless sensor network (WSN) plays an important role in our real life. Moreover, WSN are the essential elements on a wide range of fields such as Internet of things (IOT). Thus, it is necessary to prevent WSN from internet attacks and maintain its stability. Sensor nodes in WSN can not only collect and process physical data, but also communicate with other entities. Therefore, this essay will illustrate three approaches on the security of WSN and analyze as well as discuss the three approaches based on attacks types, attacks source, applied range and energy consumption and so on.
