There has been numerous of movies and shows based on historical events. Movie makers remake movies based on historical events to help people understand in a more modern way. Most people tend to believe that they are based on what truly happened during that time period. Some movies and shows have half the truth to the real story and have fake facts that have nothing to do with what really happened just to add more action to it. I picked the movie the Gladiator (2000) and using a primary source with help me determine if the movie is legit and accurately portrays the real event. The movie is about a Roman solider who was take in as a slave and trained to be a gladiator. Marcus Aurelius talks to Maximus about him having control over the empire instead of Marcus own son. Commodus who was Marcus’s son found out that he was not going to be able to take over the empire himself. He ended up suffocating his father and killing him and lies about it so he can end up being emperor of Rome. “This man [Commodus] was not naturally wicked, but, on the contrary, as guileless as any man that ever lived.” Maximus ends up getting caught because he knows something is up with Marcus dying because he knows someone was involved. He ends up being a slave to Commodus and is turned in to a gladiator. Maximus ends up escaping and goes back to his family but Commodus beats him there and end up slaughtering his family.
