Rough draft The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, the first novel made from the genius mind of Mark Haddon. Luckily the drama that followed did not stop him from continuing his passion of writing. According to Marshall.Edu the drama was birthed after the book was banned by a school in Leon County Florida after being reported by a dozen parents for its language and content. Soon multiple schools followed suit. The book does have a few instances of vulgar language and some more pressing content, but it should not have ever been banned for it! There is so much more hidden within the pages than what the people put front and center.

If a seven year old child can read this novel word for word, than they should be smart enough to understand these topics are realistic and are in this case made up! Wilson County TN banned the book because they believed that the book could pollute their children’s minds (Marshall.edu). Is this a plausible reason? No, if anything it would make them look at the world around them in a more respectful manner. Christopher has his own way of thinking and lives in the real world. Not some make-believe world. According to an article by Stefani.com the novel was claimed to be “too real” by multiple parents. The characters that parents end up flagging down for content are the ones the reader grows to dislike anyway. No child wants to be like someone they dislike or is disliked by others, this is why blaming the characters for their behaviors is outrageous. According to an article on Mark Haddon the novel caused so much trouble that he ended up writing two versions of the book. One for adults, one for children.
Being young can be hard. Both teachers and parents breaking down your walls at all times telling you what you can and can’t do. By law they have to. Telling you what you can eat, say, or even the where’s, when’s, and how’s of your life. A parent can choose to influence every aspect of your life. Parents are controlling over you because they believe they can create and raise the
According to the American Library Association, famous children books such as, Alice in Wonderland, The Giving Tree, Charlotte’s Web, and The Lorax were all banned in certain states in the country. These are not the only books that have been banned, countless numbers of a variety of books have been removed, erased, or trashed because of how people negatively perceived them. The banning of books has been a long controversial argument from the time they were created. All over the world, a book has been banned or challenged because it did not meet the criteria a book should have in that community. Whether it be parents, educators, or officials, people regard the contents of the certain books as inappropriate and socially insensitive.
Fahrenheit 451 was published in 1953 by Ray Bradbury in the US. His book is set in a dystopian society where books are illegal and and thinking is restricted. Instead of firemen putting out fires, they start them.. Bradbury’s famous book has been mainly challenged by middle schools and high schools. While Fahrenheit 451 maybe the most controversial novel in the 20th century, it holds the award as being one of the most notable banned books in history. No other book has been written like this so mysterious and real. The idea of how books are banned doesn’t really matter to most people. While Fahrenheit 451 might include some vulgar language and profanity, it shares ideas that can help young people.
In the Novel, The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon, we are shown that the truth is not always accurate and that lies are sometimes necessary. Christopher Boone is a 15 year old who has Asperger’s Syndrome, which lies in the Autism Spectrum. Due to this condition Christopher does not understand emotion, metaphors – which he considers a lie – and knows all the prime numbers up to 7,507 as well as all the countries and cities of the world. Christopher’s life revolves around the truth and throughout the novel he is seen to grow and learn to cope with different things when dealing with lies. Most events in this novel are situated around a lie that has been told; nearly every character tells one and has to face the
Christopher lives a life different from everyone else, but this is normal for him, and author Mark Haddon allows us a window into Christopher’s mind. For the play, the director wants to emphasize this particular quality of the book by juxtaposing the tenor of Christopher’s mind to the interactions he has with outside beings. Because of this perspective, the book and play explore the themes of communication and emotion in both society and Christopher Boone’s life. I expected that the play would be a physical story of what actually happened during the play. However, when I see the trailer for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, I think of looking through Christopher’s eyes and understanding what he thinks. With people, he does not register the emotions or purpose behind others’ actions or words; he just notices facts and files them away into his brain. For example, in describing his teachers at school, Christopher says, ‘…Mr. Jeavons

Across the globe, the classic story, Of Mice and Men is banned in public schools because of conflicting opinions on the book. The banning of Of Mice and Men is very common because of the dark and depressing tone and irrelevant word choice. Parents call school districts complaining about the unbefitting context that their teens are reading, and schools have no choice but to ban them. Although the language used in Of Mice and Men, can be considered inappropriate and vulgar to some, censoring books in schools, is a violation of the first amendment, as well as hides teens from the hardships of life, and disconnects teens from meeting inspiring characters.

Reasons for book banning can range from vile content in the book, or ideological differences in communities of people versus those in the book. People should be able to learn about a piece of literature, or just simply enjoy it, even if it’s offensive.. In the article, “Read It and Weep”, Elaine Moore goes into detail about what students on college campuses though of “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”, a medieval romance which, according to academics at the University of Cambridge, is the source of one of the first rape jokes. Many students claim to have been “triggered” by the romance and refused to take part in learning about it, demanding for it to be removed from literature courses. Dr. Lucy Allen, a medievalist at Cambridge, claims that “much of the humor in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is derived from jokes about violence.” (Petri). Peter de Bolla, a professor of cultural history and aesthetics, believes “If texts are not taught, you risk cultural amnesia. And if you are really interested in literature, you don’t want someone else to prejudge the content.” (Petri), taking a stab at content warnings proposed by people who are repulsed by the literary content. In Florida, a graphic novel called, “This One Summer”.
