Smiley; he goes in search for Simon Wheeler that knew Smiley in his boyhood. Then the narrator of the text transfers to Simon to tell the story about Smiley.The use of a frame narrative that Twain uses helps indicate a juxtaposition between the two narrators;using diction to emphasize the use of formal and informal. In the story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” Mark Twain incorporates the use of informal, slang, and uneducated diction. Twain uses this type of diction to describe the character, Jim Smiley; furthermore, it also give the reader a conclusion of when and where the story takes place. This also helps develop a persona of Jim Smiley and gives the reader an insight of the western setting.

My first story is about Mark Twain “Life On The Mississippi”, It is about a town called Hanable Missouri, its along the Mississippi River. A little about this town its boring like a ghost town in till this big steam boat comes to the town, When the boat gets there the town is full of excitement, even the town drunk gets up off of his lazy butt to go see the boat.
In the story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” by Mark Twain, the use of diction provides differences upon the certain class of characters. The text consist of three characters as the narrator looks for someone known as Smiley. He comes across a man by the name of Simon Wheeler and is caught in his story of another man by the name of Smiley which provides a story within a story. As clear of a difference as black and white, the diction of the narrator is more profound and well educated than other characters is this humorous fiction piece. The differences is the use of diction is a bit extreme, providing a possible time era and a separation in educational class.

Starting off from when the narrator searched for Simon Wheeler to ask about a friend’s friend named Leonidas W. Smiley, all the way to where the narrator was annoyed from Wheeler’s story and left. Twain uses imagery to create the setting of where the story takes place, and to describe Simon Wheeler’s story of Smiley’s experience.
1. The educational aspect portrayed in this text “The Notorious Jumping Frog”, was made very clear. Mark Twain brilliantly allowed the readers to see a difference between Easterners and Westerners through educated and uneducated diction. The narrator’s tone and choice of words used at the beginning of the text, revealed to me that he has academia background.
Throughout the essay, the use of vernacular speech can be observed when looking at the dialogue between characters. For example, “Good day, Mrs. Henderson. Momma responded with “How you, Sister Flowers?”. In the dialogue between Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Flowers, it can be seen that Flowers speaks respectively with sophistication while Mrs. Henderson speaks carelessly using an older southern tone. This results in a clear comparison between the characters in the essay which represent the importance of education and vocabulary. The constant use of the wrong verb by “Momma” bothers the author, giving us a better idea of language’s role in her life. In addition, the author foreshadows part of the lifeline, so we gain a better understanding of the story when the lifeline is presented later on.

This movement in writing focused on writing about how things really appeared and how they really were instead of writing in a dark manner. The Rana pipien is a frog more commonly known by the name Northern Leopard Frog. They are characterized by dark spots on their dorsal side and dorsolateral folds and considered medium sized. This strong jumper is difficult to catch during the day. It emits startling “warning screams” when jumping into the water and when grabbed. The frog may also release urine to discourage potential predator and reduce weight for jumping. The Rana pipien eats a variety of invertebrates. During winter, they often spend it under under submerged logs or rocks in small streams or marshes where large numbers may congregate.
