This section of a book was composed by Jacob Riis, who was a muckraking columnist. Mud slinger was a writer who pushed for change by productions the issues of society to the center and rich classes. In this book, Riis made a photographic report about the life of needy individuals in the dwellings of New York.
Initially, Riis portrayed an assault, which was made by policemen. The object of that strike was the stale-brew plunges. He said that the squads sent to make concurrent control on all tramp 's sanctuary in the territory. After that, they got a few tramps and sent them to the police headquarters. At that point, Riis depicted a room of one dwelling. There was grimy floor, broken seat, and numerous things that it shouldn 't in the memory of the man. In that place, there was a gathering of destitute individuals. The policemen broke into that room and encompassed those individuals. There was a thirteen man in that messy room. The police took them and went to another area. In another area, the policemen discovered seventy five men and ladies and captured them in four little rooms. When they did a reversal to the police headquarters, there were two hundred seventy five tramps, who were caught by policemen, pressed them into gatherings to be charged in the police court. He said that the tramps may be sent to an island for six months. After that, he portrayed the general population 's life here which known as "the curve". He said that an offer of stale-brew activity has left

Punished was written by Victor Rios and published in 2011. Rios wrote the book to chronicle the challenges young black and Latino boys faced within their improvised highly criminalized neighborhoods. Rios grew up in Oakland California and lived in what was considered the ghettos mainly a minority poor community; he was also a gang member with his fair share of trouble. Rios began looking for answers to the plights he and his community faced after the murder of his friend while they ran from a rival gang member. A conversation with the police whom Rios claimed told him they wanted the gangs to kill each other off made him seek answers to the prevalence of violence that plagues his community.
Harvest depicts a black teenager, Angel who is socially discriminated because of her race. In the story, Evans represents unequal treatment people often get based on race. This clearly gives the idea of ongoing racism in our society. Evans tries to make readers aware that such discrimination could be the root to even more problems. She implies that racial discrimination is not necessary and should be put to a halt.
Eradication is the complete destruction of something. ''How the Other Half Lives'' shows the life of immigrants. One example from the pictures of Jacob Riis took was called "Five Cents Lodging," it shows the poor immigrants are in dirty little tenement that were rented out for five cents. The picture shows the struggle of immigrants when they came to America. The immigrants were looking for a better life in American, but instead got stuck in poverty, and would often die of diseases. In addition, Jacob Riis wrote over 101 pages about Five Points. Jacob Riis impacted Five Points by showing the world how the poor immigrants lived. One example from " How the Other Half lives" states,"The twenty-five cent lodging- house keeps up the pretense of a bedroom, through the head-high partition enclosing a space just large enough to hold a cot and a chair and allows the man room to pull off his clothes is the shallowest of all pretenses. The fifteen-cent bed stands boldly forth without screen in a room full of bunks with sheets as yellow and blankets as foul. At the ten-cent level the locker for the sleeper's clothes disappears. There is no longer need of it. The tramp limit is reached, and there is nothing to lock up save, on general principles, the lodger. Usually the ten and seven-cent lodgings are different grades of the same abomination. Some sort of an apology for a bed, with mattress and blanket( How the Other Half Lives). In this quote from Jacob Riis's he talks about the houses and how even the most expensive houses are garbage. He writes about the beds the people sleep on and how the homes are "abominations," meaning they are disgusting and not worth living in even if they are rented for five cents. Therefore, Jacob Riis showed the world how poor immigrants lived, and this eventually led to the destruction of Five

I am currently a Junior at Mills High School that is enrolled in the AP Language and Composition class. For our summer assignment, we were assigned to read Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, which recounts the true story of a Muslim-American man named Abdulrahman Zeitoun who remained in New Orleans during 2005’s deadly Hurricane Katrina. While trapped in the city, Zeitoun paddles in his canoe in the flooded streets coming to the aid of those who are in danger; however, Zeitoun is arrested under accusations of being affiliated with an Al-Qaeda Terrorist Cell. Throughout the novel, Zeitoun is portrayed as a gentle and compassionate person who puts his own life on the line to save others; defying the harsh stereotypes that surround Muslims following 9/11. While Zeitoun certainly redefines the views of the reader and portrays a real struggle for Muslims in our nation today, would you still appreciate this story’s message and meaning if I informed you that the real Zeitoun was a man known for committing domestic violence to his wife? Mr. Zeitoun does indeed abuse his wife and has been under trial several times and was convicted for domestic violence and later faced allegations of hiring attacks on his wife, Kathy. The controversy divided my class into two distinct advocates, some of my classmates encourage Zeitoun to be remain in the AP Language and Composition curriculum. While others, including myself, agree that by reading, studying, and writing about Zeitoun we glorify a man who abuses
The first of the muckrakers to be discussed is Jacob Riis. Riis was born and raised in Denmark, but moved to New York when he was twenty- one years old. He grew up in an impoverished household with fourteen other siblings; therefore, he understood the struggle of the needy that lived in New York (“Jacob Riis Muckraker”).
The Red tent is a book that follows the life of a woman named Dinah. The stories that are told throughout take place in biblical times, and follows some of the lineage of the bible itself. The book begins by telling the story of Dinah’s four mothers, along with their relationship with Dinah’s father Jacob. After being introduced to Dinah herself, the book follows her life story from beginning to end, all the way from Haran, through Canaan, Shechem, and into Egypt. Throughout this paper, I will be describing and comparing events of the book verses modern day, in relationship to child birthing practices, family dynamics, personal life experiences of characters, along with discussing herbs, spices, and medications used by
In the novella “Down the Rabbit Hole” by Pablo Juan Villalobos, the story revolves around the concept of innocence. What makes this novella different from other literature that discuss innocence is that the main character Tochtli does not actual move from innocence to experience but rather stays innocent but as the audience reads on they figure out that tochtli has moved further and further away from pure innocence. In the beginning of the novella in the short notes ahead innocence is explained in the context of the novella as being incomprehension. This is a theme that is revealed throughout the entirety of the novella. The novella Down the rabbit hole sets the scene inside a palace of a later understood drug lord, who is the father of tochtli, the main character. Tochtli is only seven and therefor does not have an exact grip on what is happening around him. Juan pablo Villalobos however reveals information in such a way that the truth escapes the innocent mind of tochtli but screams out to the readers.

Mud (1983) is one of Maria Irene Fornes 's best plays. Like Fefu and her Friends, it is set in ' 'the preindustrial society ' ' (Savaran 2012, 56); the incidents take place in a small unnamed rural town in the 1930s when feminism was not firmly established, and women were struggling to get their rights. The play revolves around three characters, Mae, the only female character in the play, and two male characters, Lloyd, her illiterate foster brother and former boyfriend, and Henry, her neighbour and new boyfriend. The society in which Mae lives is a patriarchal one where she was previously dominated by her father and later by Lloyd. In such a society women are considered subordinate to and of lower rank than men. They are looked upon as

It’s a title with a strong letter used as somewhat like a alliteration to exaggerate the ideas within this film, ‘V for Vendetta’, directed by James McTeigue, this defines what the true meaning of injustice which seems to be over exaggerated through action, sci-fi and thriller scenes. ‘V for Vendetta’ is a type of film where in a future, where there was a British tyranny or corruption in the government, a shadowy freedom fighter plots to overthrow it with the help of a young woman. This film shows the message of the best advice is to stop fighting it and embrace the fact that you have been given an opportunity if you chose to view it with a different set of eyes. And yet there will be many who miss this opportunity as they feel a false sense of security operating in the belief systems that harbor fear, anger and hate rather than letting go to face the very emotions that enslave them. This film uses fancy quotes or catch phrases, with a strong act of violence in acting around the main character(s), especially the protagonist ‘V’ and to the eventuality, ‘Evey’ at the end of the story. Special effects and the fanatical costume visuals (with the famous Guy Fawkes mask) all is used intently to make the audience with a tint of exhilarance, to make them think, what does this mean? What is the idea that V is trying to show in injustice? Through elements found in the film I’ve found that,......
