Art is often described as a living work. To senior Emily Bodine, living people are what make her art work possible. Bodine has been interested in portrait painting for her entire life, but it has taken her years to perfect her talent. At the Spartan Fiesta she is planning to show all of the work from her high school career and work towards getting a scholarship for an art program in college.
There are two $500 scholarships offered to seniors that participate in the Spartan Fiesta. This year Bodine is up against six other people to get the scholarship. Art teacher Denise Carlson wants the grant to go to a person who will use the money to pursue a career in the art field.
“I obviously love all of my students, but I really want this scholarship

Ancient education was filled with a lot of harsh and rough training, but it was necessary. Spartan education was very tough for This is because they were an extremely militaristic community that focused on physical training rather than reading and writing. They were training them in such a way that would bring upon them unbearable pain and agony. The strengths of Spartan education far outweigh the weaknesses, this is because women were equal to men, Spartans were vigorously trained to be strong, and that everyone was taught to be respectful and obedient.
CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE 1. Is China's only child policy worth all of the withdrawals? The one-child policy was only supposed to decrease the population, but it also helped China's economy and environment. The one child policy was implemented when the higher ups of China noticed that China's population was growing too rapidly. They did not want the population to keep increasing because it would damage their economy.
Since the beginning of time, artists have labored extensively to find innovative ways to convey sentiment, passion, and feeling. Telling stories and trying to unlock the minds of people through different avenues of artistic labors. Art touches and affects people in unique ways; it can have special or unusual meaning on the person depending on how one views it. Artists’ rendering of their art is interpreted in numerous ways by others who view it unless it is explained by the artist on its meaning giving a clear example of what they are portraying. Two people looking at the same painting, sculpture, portrait, or photo may come to different views on the arts meaning even though they are looking
There were many important aspects of Spartan culture that lead to the success of the city-state.
To fully understand the structure of Sparta's society one must realise each and every role of its social groups that made Sparta once the most powerful civilisation on earth. Even before its rise to power Sparta's geographical location in southeastern Peloponnese was advantageous in sustaining the austere and strict lifestyle of the citizens. Laconia's rich agricultural lands produced various raw materials such as marble and limestone, their renowned honey and red-purple dye extracted from Murex mollusc harvested in great numbers along the Laconian Gulf. According to the ancient geographer Strabo, the mountains were quarried for marble and limestone. It was these impassable mountains that provided Sparta a natural defensive barrier against
In the 7th Century BC a new era of warfare strategy evolved. Before this new strategy, foot soldiers (known as hoplites) engaged in battle in the form of one mob for each army which on the command of their generals runs at each other and proceeds to hack blindly at the enemy with little to no direction other then to kill the enemy in front of them. This proved to be very messy and the tide of battle depended mostly on emotion and size of an army. In the name of strategy and organization, the phalanx was developed. A phalanx is simply defined as a line formation with its width significantly larger then its depth. The depth of the phalanx is a variable which some suggest was decided by the army itself rather then by the leaders of the army.
Before the Spartans were known for their military might, they were just another Greek City-State. The Spartans took pride in their artistic skills, especially Spartan poetry . A key event in the rise of Sparta was the conquest of Messenia in the 8th century . After the conquest of Messenia, the Messenian citizens were made slaves, or Helots as the Spartans would call them . After dealing with a Messenian slave revolt, a Spartan called Lycurgus created a set of laws which all Spartan citizens had to follow . The goal of the laws was to make the Spartan citizens professional soldiers that were capable of fighting off any enemies or potential slave revolts . The helots outnumbered the Spartans and were used for any number of tasks so that the Spartans’ time and focus would be solely devoted to military training. The use of Helots to do ordinary tasks like taking care of the crops, house and meals, was the spark that allowed for the formation of the Spartan military culture.
Humanity, as a species, has failed to keep our environment safe and sustained. As we advance technologically the earth is getting hotter, potentially so hot that eventually it’ll be uninhabitable(kind of like Mars). Humanity is at fault for this as around the time of the industrial revolution different fuels were being discovered and uses for them created. The use of these fuels (typically burning) cause greenhouse gasses to be trapped in the atmosphere, locking in heat. If humans didn’t have the unquenchable need for advancement, even at the cost of their own planet, we would have never had this issue.
The Spartans The "Spartans," who were they, where did they come from and what did they accomplish for Greece and, in time modern society. All these questions I hope to answer in my investigation. I found the Spartan, very interesting when I first encountered them in "The Odyssey" by Homer, where we hear of "Helen of Sparta," the partner of both "Paris of Troy" and his enemy and his city's enemy "Menelaus of Sparta." The entire war in fact broke out because Helen ran away with Paris and the whole of Greece was dragged into what at first was a personal feud. Had this not happened none of the Odyssey would have taken place and the old fable like story, as it seems to have developed, of the giant
After watching this episode, I am convinced that the only reason that these two got a deal was because of the already booming business in obstacle racing from their competitors. Not being truthful during a business pitch is a very rocky road to go down. Losing trust in an investor, like Barbara pointed out, is a feeling that you never want to have when you're trying to get their money. I'd be curious to see how long this company stays around. Though they do offer some different experiences at their races than competitors, I feel that they will always be playing catch up. Spartan Race has a huge brand that has already reached the global market, offering races around the globe, and has already capitalized on major partnerships with key companies.
The spartan military was one of the most feared militaries in the greek society. They trained their citizens in discipline and honor. Their entire culture was based on war. The spartans began in the mycenaean age(1600 Bce to 1100 Bce).
Throughout ancient human history, men and women held vastly different roles. Women were often given the duty of bearing and raising children, whereas men were expected to fight, provide an income, and protect the household. Women were seen as totally inferior to men and described by Euripedes as “a curse to mankind” and “a plague worse than fire or any viper.” However, this misogynistic view of women and designated role of inferiority was not apparent in every ancient civilization. The role of the female in ancient Greek history can best be explored and contrasted between two important civilizations: The Spartans and the Athenians. The Spartan women were incredibly advanced for their time, and the Athenian women were drastically far behind. Both the Spartan and Athenian women held roles at home and lived lives far removed from the men of their societies. However, their lives were much different. While the Spartan women were strong and educated, the Athenian women held a status almost equal to slavery. The Spartan women were far more advanced than Athenians in aspects of life including education, athleticism, and independence.
Art, in each and every form that it comes in, shows us who we are. Our
The doodle a woman makes on her notepad while on hold with the dentist’s office is a creation, and therefore art. An incredibly complex and lifelike portrait that took months to plan and paint is a creation, and therefore art. One does not have to create within the confines of traditional artistic thought to be an artist. By looking inward within one’s self, finding inspiration from existence, and executing a work, one is an artist.
