Luis Enrique(Manager, FC Barcelona) and colleagues have looked more deeply into the nature of the networks, searching for what they call “flow motifs” which refer to extended sequences of consecutive passes between specific players. The same concept of characterising different network structures using motifs/patterns of interconnection was developed previously by scientists to study natural systems such as networks of neurons ,genes, and organisms in food

One of the most obvious ways a club can make money is through ticket sales. Supporters of the clubs in question and also neutral spectators will all pay the club to watch the match. To ensure that the club continues to hold or expand its fan base the club will have to be somewhat successful in its competitive competitions. Clubs who are less competitive in their competitions will generally have less of a following than a more dominant club.

If you are a soccer fan you might be familiar with some of the names of the top Spanish teams such as Real Madrid and Barcelona. They are both run by the same athletic clubs that manage the well known soccer franchises, and are recurrent champions in Liga ACB. Have you heard of Ricky Rubio or the Gasol brothers? Before they were NBA greats they played for their pro teams.

Another major difference in these games are the stadiums. Camp Nou, Barcelona, is the largest soccer stadium in European soccer. It can hold 99,354 spectators. The largest football stadium in America is the Michigan Stadium, holding an extravagant 107,601 spectators. While American football takes the cake for the best stadium in terms of capacity, there are many other factors that go into a great stadium. Design is one of those factors. Take Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar for example. This field is actually squeezed in between rock formations in all four directions. While watching the game, spectators can take in the beautiful scenery. It also offers beautiful sunny days most of the year, giving the coliseum a huge plus. Soccer isn’t the only activity hosted there, too. They also host events like cricket and music festivals

Real Madrid and Barcelona have over 20 league titles each, 32 and 22 respectively. As for the Spanish Cup, Copa del Rey, they are also very triumphant, Real Madrid’s 19 wins to Barcelona’s 26. Although, the case study of Manchester United gives us a good example of a brand’s ability to globalize, it does not give us a clear picture into how a league as a whole accomplishes these same goals. To get this clear picture of a successful global soccer league we can review a case study by Matthew Holt that examines the UEFA Champions League and its ability to succeed. The UEFA Champions League(UCL) was established after the UEFA European cup started to see more revenue increases based on the increase in television and digital technologies. This was accomplished through selling the television rights as the UCL brand rather than allowing the clubs to individually sell the rights to the games. This increased the value of the television rights and in turn increased the profitability of the clubs. (Holt, 2007) UEFA sold this UCL brand
