The author Lauren Tarshis does persuade the reader that concussions are a serious problem in sports by giving real life examples, scientific facts, and logic. The Most convincing parts of Head Trauma was the real life examples, because they show that concussions can happen to anybody. The real life examples are the most persuading in the article. The saddest one is the story of Zach, an uprising football player who had a major concussion in a football game that destroyed any possible good future for him. It was in fact not a regular concussion that caused him to have a lot of brain damage, but his second impact injury is the one that caused him to be without speech, comprehension, or fine motor skills for months. He was in the ICU just because
Lucas Maestas is a 17-year-old teenager that has a passion for school and sports. He plans on pursuing a career in neurology or political science. Lucas has had to endure the turmoil of post concussive syndrome the last four years. The first concussion Lucas received was the summer before his eighth grade year. He received three more concussions after that, all taking place in a two-year time frame. Lucas still has symptoms of post concussive syndrome till this day, but has seen improvement with his symptoms. He has really seen an improvement with his overall well-being after going to the Carrick Brain Center in Dallas (There will be a page about his experience at the brain center soon). Lucas

After reading this post several times, the author made numerous points on why there should be way more research on how concussions and domestic violence in the NFL can be linked together. There has not been too much research of how the concussions and the domestic violence cases in the NFL can be connected to each other. But throughout the years, the NFL has a history of dodging and ignoring these domestic violence cases with their players. From the league doing this, it throws shade on the NFL and makes them look bad as whole. One other thing that NFL has been ignoring many years is the concussion situation and how it takes a huge toll on the players who suffer from the concussions. Also throughout the post, the author gives examples of cases
It is terrifying to think of "the head rapidly rotates from one side to another causing shearing and straining of brain tissues", but even worst is staring at the medical bill. Since the brain is a three pound organ that basically floats inside your head. When one sustains a tackle, the brain rattles inside the skull; resulting in a neurological disturbance. According to a former patient that suffered a concussion, “Emergency room visit: $1,664; CT scan: $1,462; MRI: $3,665; Hospital stay: $34,030”; with a total cost of $48,021, a concussion is not worth it.
In this article a clinical evaluation was used to study the mild traumatic brain injuries that college football players receive. Images of the brain was taken before the injury so they can tell what I normal brain of the person looks like from a brain that has a concussion. This will give doctors a better understanding of what is really going on. This article gives me another perspective and way on how to look at a concussion. This way of observation is different from the one ones that I collected in my other sources. I found this source also in google scholar. It took the same amount of time as I found my other sources to find this source. One big take away form finding this source compared to my other ones is that having different perspectives on one subject will help me gain a better understanding on concussion in
“If only she knew then that her son would be dead at 25. Joseph hung himself in his mother's shed on June 7, 2012. His brain was later found to have severe CTE, a degenerative brain disease that has been linked to concussions in football. Joseph Chernach had played sports, including wrestling, pole vaulting and football most of his young life. But he spent almost four years playing Pop Warner football from ages 11 to 14.” When you get concussion after concussion it repetitively traumatizes your brain and it can lead to CTE it means Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy it is a brain disease found in athletes, veterans, and others with a history of concussions. This NFL is under destress because of numerous studies that show concussions can lead to a large amount brain injuries way after the player has played his last game. However, this isn't just a problem the NFL is facing, the real problem is our youth contact sports and head-related injuries. High school athletes are extremely more exposed to concussions than
A concussion is a trauma induced alteration in mental status that may or may not result in loss of consciousness. In the sports world today, there are many different injuries that athletes experience and one of the most devastating injury is a concussion. Concussions can happen to anyone, in any sport, but we tend to see most concussions in contact sports (Świerzewski 1). While having an informal conversation with my dad about football, he told me it was common for athletes to receive a head injury in a game and continue to play as if nothing was wrong. While watching SportsCenter, I found that some of the greatest retired athletes don’t remember the best moments of their careers due to the lack of treatment. The worst aspect of concussions is that the symptoms can be delayed; in some cases, it’s only a headache so athletes don’t seek medical treatment. Multiple concussions over time can lead to life-threatening complications due to the damage they cause to the brain. Concussions can happen to anybody at anytime, but there is more to concussions than meets the eye.

David Duerson’s family, the family of a legend, found Duerson dead in his home, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the chest (Bartholet). Duerson had won two championship rings, named first team All-Pro by three sources, received the NFL Man of the Year Award, and held an NFL record for 19 years (Bartholet). So why would this amazing man with a life of accomplishments commit suicide? Doctors wanted to find out. Duerson had sent his family a text message that he wanted his brain to be donated to research for concussions caused by professional football. In his final months, Duerson had complained to his family about his declining mental state. After his death, researchers found that Duerson had a disease found in many ex-professional football players, known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy, caused by concussions (Bartholet).

It happens so quickly that you can’t even comprehend it, it’s a quick flash and then it’s like your whole world got turned upside down. Some people call it “seeing stars” or “blacking out.” A temporary blow to the head that causes unconsciousness is called a concussion, and they are becoming a serious issue in sports. The term “Concussion” was used pretty loosely back in the 1950’s. This became a serious issue around the early 1990’s and is now one of the most serious issues in today 's sports. Some myths have been brought up about concussions and many researchers decided to test them out and see if they are fact or fiction. Karen Schrock discovered six things about concussions that are true and many people don’t know them. In my own opinion, three out of the six are kind of common sense, but the other three are more unknown true facts about concussions.
