After watching the film, it really opened up my eyes about some of the struggles many Canadians deal with and how the stereotypes have impacted how Canadians see themselves. Overall the movie was great because it gave good insight into the Canadian history and its people. It was interesting to hear what famous Canadians thought about the stereotypes that other people thought or believed. I was very intrigued at the questions that were being asked such as, what is Canada's national dish? It is very easy to answer the question of, what is America's nation dish or food, which many of us will answer with hot dogs, pizza, and fries. But when presented with the question of Canada's nation dish, it dawned on me, that I had know very little about
Anyone who lives or has relatives in Canada know that Canada is a young country that was established about 150 years ago. But a lot of people don’t know in the time span between the 150 years and now Canada (canadian figures) has accomplished many things that may have even shape the world we live in today. In the past 150 years a lot of things Canadian people did cannot even be forgotten, like the likes of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Nellie Letitia McClung, and Harriet Tubman. Canada got their independence not that long ago and it all starts with a man name Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Pierre Elliott Trudeau has done many things how is today to be.
From the years of 1945-2000, Canada changed and developed as a country. These changes had both negative and positive effects, and were quite controversial. With a global crisis at hand, Canada found itself involved in international conflicts like they’ve never experienced before. Meanwhile, Canada was also dogged with internal issues, which were both political and economic, as it changed society. Canada was faced with problems of immigration, multiculturalism, Quebec separatism, as well as regionalism. This made Canada’s society change drastically. With Canada’s changes came the development of Canada’s national identity. Canadians began to view their country differently, and Canada’s identity took ahold of a new meaning.
A lot of things and people pitch in to the Canadian identity. I think Canadian immigrants have contributed to the Canadian identity because they made Canada have different people besides Canadians. This also shows that Canada welcomes any culture and anyone from any country to Canada because they are open to anyone. By Immigrants coming to Canada, It made Canada be different, and a better country. If Canada did not let these immigrants into our country, it shows that Canada is not a welcoming country and other countries might not treat Canada well if they were not nice but thankfully, they are nice. Secondly, Canada would be pretty different if in world war two, if women didn’t start to enter the workforce. I think this contributed to the
Canada has been tested time after time, whether through war or with its own people, but it is because of this struggle that Canada has become the country it is today. Through World War 1, Canadians learned that unity is strength. Bringing people together to work towards a shared goal and to set aside differences, has proved to be effective during the war. While there was still ongoing discrimination towards those of different colour and gender, some of it were put aside to aid the Allies. Men of different ethnicities were able to join the Canadian forces, only if they met certain requirement however, and helped the army grow in numbers. Especially in battle did they move as one. The victory of Vimy Ridge united Canadians together and gave them pride for their country as well as the people serving her.
Since the update of Canada’s Food Guide in 2007, many people, including experts such as doctors and dietitians, have criticized Health Canada and the government for the way they have presented Canadians with nutrition information and advice. Some have said that the portion sizes are incorrect, some say that the information on fats and oils can be misleading, scaring people into thinking that all fats are bad, some experts have even gone as far as to say that the information Health Canada has provided Canadians is not based on current scientific principles as the subject of food and nutrition is constantly evolving and changing every year. Though some criticisms and suggestions people are making with regards to Canada’s Food Guide sound a little

Canada today is a respectful country, however it has not always been this way. Events happened in the past gradually shaped how people view Canada and people’s sense of Canada will continue to be affected by events happen in the
Consolidation: any industry consolidates when one of the steps in the commodity chain becomes controlled by a finite number of producers. In the beef industry consolidation would be at the slaughterhouse and meat packing level. One company would consolidate the steps of production into one facility. Also companies would consolidate the market by only having a small amount of corporations controlling the slaughterhouses and meat packing. Currently, four companies control 87% of the meat production.
In today’s society there is a variety of foods consumed. Some of which are vital to the human body and some are eaten for the taste. As a result, food guides are able to inform the public which foods to eat and how much of the food should be consumed. It also tells information based on health and how to prevent certain diseases. Different countries have altered food guides. This may be due to the foods available abundantly in a country that provide nutrients and other essential components needed. Moreover, some food guides have a lot of information and others are very simple and may use images to portray messages. Three food guides I chose to examine are the food guides of Greece, Australia and Japan. I will be highlighting the similarities/differences

Canada is considered to be a cultural mosaic, where all cultures are embraced opposed to a melting pot where it is expected to adopt one culture. Government regulated media is more favourable than policies based off of self-regulated solutions when addressing Canada’s media industries and cultural needs. Canadians place importance on national identity and without government regulated policies, the content in the media would have minimal Canadian information. According to the Aird Commission, when Canada’s media was operating through private enterprise, many stations expressed conflicting content, however, with state regulated media, broadcasting allows the nation to have a unified vocation. One unified message being sent to the nations citizens is more beneficial than multiple broadcasts on differentiated and insignificant information.
Canadian and American cultural views were different which was proved because one is multicultural and the other is not. Canada was known as “mosaic” which means immigrants from any ethnic group were accepted here and were allowed to practice their religion. Therefore, they have a double identity ,meaning they are their ethnic group before a Canadian citizen as in Japanese-Canadian, Asian Canadian and so on . Whereas ,American culture was known as the “melting pot “, where they accept other cultures however they encouraged their citizens to give up their original culture ( Wells ,10 and 11 ). Canadian’s usually describe themselves as “NOT AMERICAN“(Wells,35) . Many Americans view Canada as a positive nation and as a better environment to live in then the United States . A legal sectary from Gastonia ,North Carolina said “Canada’s such a terrific place, I’d move there tomorrow if I could” (Wells, 35). This proves that Americans want to come to Canada since it is a safer environment due to it’s unique culture. Canadians are recognized as more modest, less aggressive and more down to earth then their southern neighbors (Wells,35).
This event deserves the rating of +2 because it introduced a period of prosperity for Canada, as encouraged an atmosphere of acceptance within Canada. This event also caused profound, widespread, and long lasting change. The change brought on by this policy signaled a profound change in Canada’s views on multiculturalism, with attempts at assimilation finally being pushed aside and the benefits of a multicultural society being
A recent article uploaded on February 5, 2016 had featured Leesee Papatsie, a well- known activist in Iqaluit that started a Facebook group called “Feeding my Family.” She started this group to protest against high food prices and has been for over two and a half years (Zerehi, 2016). The pricing for perishable foods are already high as is. Now with the sinking loonie and drought in California that occurred in the middle of 2015, the price for food has yet again gone up immensely starting in the new year of 2016 (Zerehi, 2016). The Conference Board of Canada has five key areas to strategize for food security which are: food health and safety, household food security, industry prosperity and environmental sustainability. In January 2016, there
Thirdly, the Great Depression was also very important to me. I found it very cool how the stock market crash in a brief second, just like that, gone. I found it Historically significant as it identified how Canada and the rest of the world messed up bid time in history. Most of the time in historical documents countries try to make their country sound like they have been perfect through history. This is a crucial example of how the Government’s mess up in Wall Street Affected everyone worldwide and caused a huge depression. It impacted many people like the Government officials, the upper class, lower class, and middleclass. I think the comparison to the 2008 stock market crash made it easy to remember as a historical event. I think that it reveals a lot about enduring or merging issues in history, as it shows how the Government can be faulty and also how fragile the economy can be. It also shows just how this could
