By knowing personal things about the character, the readers are able to feel stronger emotions towards the characters because of the ability to live through the character’s mind and a grasp of who the character is and why he or she acts the way they do. Also, this point of view gives readers a background and allows them to judge a character more or less. The reader's opinion of Mr. Chiu rises in the story because of the major character change. For Mr. Chiu, the reader is able to get a better idea of his character change because they are following his thoughts throughout his experience. At first, this allows the readers to feel empathy and compassion for his situation. But, he becomes so ego-driven and vengeful that the reader loses all empathy and start to judge him for his choices.
