As Commissioner of the National Quidditch League, I have come to the conclusion to make rule changes to insure the safety of our athletes. The NQL is one of the country’s most popular and highest revenue leagues. We have a duty to uphold ethical standards to set a good example for our young fans. In conversations with doctors, players, owners, and some fans, the league office has decided to enact some new policy changes. The most important policy changes enacted are that all players must now where helmets, a new concussion protocol, and players who intentionally target opposing players will be at risk for fines and suspension. Some may feel that the character of the game is being threatened by these new rule changes. However, the safety of our athletes is much more important. We are confident that these new changes will further demonstrate why the NQL is one of our country’s most popular leagues. Lastly, as a league we can no longer claim to display integrity if allow the head injuries to continue.

After reading Edgar Allan Poe, “The Raven” during the course of study for the class and learning how Gothic literature was part of a central movement in the Romanticism era, I decided to read “The Fall of the House of Usher”. Even knowing that Poe is a gothic writer when the story started I was surprised, that beside the description of the feelings of sorrow and dead the House of Usher imposed on the visiting companion, as he describe them “I looked upon the scene before me — upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain — upon the bleak walls — upon the vacant eye-like windows — upon a few rank sedges — and upon a few white trunks of decayed trees —

At this point in my life, the last thing I expected to do was to have the courage to follow my lifelong dream of being in the healthcare profession as an Occupational Therapist Assistant. But, a heartfelt presence remained within me when I first became introduced to this field as a young woman working at a hospital. There was also a calling to assist individuals and contribute to their care and recovery in their daily lives that persisted throughout my life. Being in a position of making a difference in the lives of others is an extraordinary privilege that I do not take for granted. The dream of being part of this profession was put on hold but never forgotten, when my educational pursuits led me in another direction as an Elementary School Teacher where helping at risk students reach their fullest potential intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially was both challenging and rewarding. My career for the past 8 years has been that of a Certified Elementary Teacher with a specialization in Bilingual Education in Spanish and English as a Second Language. I have been fortunate in this manner because I have taught underserved children in a lower socioeconomic school who are at risk of failing due to their classification of being English Language Learners. And for the past three years, I have enjoyed being the PreKindergarten Bilingual Teacher for these exceptional children and made lasting friendships with the staff and parents at this school.
A growing sense of concern about violence in communities across America has prompted many people to step back and evaluate the causes of this violence. Although there seem to be many contributing factors, one that is repeatedly highlighted is the depiction of violence in the media. A substantial amount of research has been done on certain forms of media, especially television and video games, while other forms have been almost completely neglected. In this paper, I will attempt to extend the implications of this research to theater, which has a long history of simulating violence. This is an important connection to investigate, as theaters still draw an impressive number of patrons and play an important role in the economy. In order for theater companies to make informed decisions about what plays to put on, and for parents to make wise decisions about what shows their children should attend, it is necessary to understand the complex relationship between simulated violence and mental health.
