Legalization of Anabolic Steroids
As more and more people misuse and become harmed by the drugs of anabolic steroids, popular belief starts to create a stronger negative emotional reaction towards it. In time, regulation of anabolic steroids should become legalized for recreational and professional uses because it encourages not only performance increases, but can also spark more scientific studies to understand the effects of steroids under a controlled dosage and quality. When an individual hears the word “steroid” they immediately think of; roid rage, individuals that are massive with incredible strength, and even the decrease in testicle size in males from the use. It sounds disheartening and negative, however, given these stereotypes that can be educated in a more sophisticated manner, steroids have potential to be in society, legally. With the right information comparing positives and negatives of the drug, discovering that most illnesses from it can be avoided, while seeing that if more researching could be done and spent on the drug, then we could

They are also referred to as anabolic, which is used to promote growth in muscle, specifically skeletal muscle, and androgenic, which is the development of male sexual characteristics in males and females. Testosterone is the male sex hormone responsible for developmental changes during puberty, in males. They also hold an androgenic effect, which again is primary/secondary sexual characteristic changes, such as, voice changes, hair growth, genital changes and emotional effects. Testosterone also has an anabolic effect such as muscle, bone, and red blood cell growth. The way anabolic steroids work is by affecting the activation rate of the enzymes involved in protein metabolism. This is used to enhance protein synthesis and decrease the degrading of protein in the muscle, which is called an anti-catabolic
All in all, steroids should not be considered a drug, but rather a vitamin, or supplement to boost athletes. Steroids should be made legal because they enhance athlete’s durability/resistance by breaking their records and being recognized more by people. I believe athletes should be able to utilize steroids as long as it is under the consent of a physician. So, let’s act now and take action look at what steroids have to offer athletes, rather than viewing it as a
Nonmedical anabolic steroids are banned by most major sports organizations, yet some athletes proceed to use them to enhance their sports game. It may help them now, but in the long run it it causes serious physical and psychological problems. Both teens and adults use steroids. It’s important for
The effects of anabolic steroids have been being studied for a long time, and it is only harmful when taken in excess without medical advisory. However, the media plays a big role in any major subject, and they are against the use of PESs. What the media has decided to tell us let the American government commit one of the worst frauds ever. They took human hormones that our body produce naturally, rebranded them with a as being an extremely harmful substance which everyone must keep away from. These propaganda has caused a misunderstanding in the general public, where it is believed that steroids bad and therefore should be
Anabolic Steroids are commonly viewed as a miracle drug in order to increase muscle growth and definition, but what most users of the drug don’t know are the life altering effects that prolonged use can cause. When the drug was released in the late 50’s by scientists working for the Soviet Union, they had no idea what the lasting effects were going to be. At first the drug seemed to be almost a miracle, it helped the Soviet weightlifting team beat the American team by a long shot, but then the lifters began to experience certain bodily changes that were actually the onsets of horrendous life changing side effects that could have been prevented with further studies. Since that time, most states in North America and around have banned the distribution and use of the drug completely due to its adverse effects on the body, if caught using such drugs in professional sporting communities, it could land the athlete thousands of dollars’ worth of fines and they can even face up to five years in jail if they are found with the drug in their possession. On top of this, the risks involved can potentially alter the normal way of life for that athlete for the rest of his life, such risks include hormonal changes, cardiovascular problems, behavioral issues, and even problems with the reproductive system.
Anabolic steroid is a type of steroid that may either have great benefits upon the body or really terrible effects upon the body. The dangerous outcomes of using steroids for a long period of time is very well known to many people. Unfortunately, athletes use steroids in order to increase their athletic performance, without putting much thought into how badly it can affect their health. Individuals should refrain from using anabolic steroids for long period of time. Anabolic steroids use is dangerous to the body, due to its ability to cause infertility in men and affect one's mental health negatively.
In today’s society, one of the most controversial subject that is popping up in the news, is the use of anabolic steroids as performance enhancing aids. Anabolic steroids are man-made derivatives of the male hormone testosterone (Hoffman and Ratamess, 2006). They have been associated with professional and amateur athletes across the world but in society today it is not just athletes themselves taking them, but the general population looking to improve body image (Bailey et al., 2016). The main reason why athletes use them is that they are said to increase muscle mass and strength via the stimulation of protein synthesis (Kicman, 2008).

The use of anabolic steroids has been a major issue not only in the United States but around the world. As indicated by the National
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary anabolic steroids are any of a group of usually synthetic hormones that are derivatives of testosterone, are used medically specially to promote tissue growth, and are sometimes abused by athletes to increase the size and strength of their muscles and improve endurance. The main purpose of anabolic steroids is to gain strength and muscle very quickly and faster than any other drug enhancement. There are many types of models that relate to anabolic steroids. One model is high school athletes who use anabolic steroids and would mostly fall in the performance enhancer model category. Many may ask, what exactly are performance enhancement drugs? Performance enhancement drugs are substances used to improve any form of activity performance in humans. There are many experiments done on the use of anabolic steroids within high schools. According to the Huffington Post as of 2011, 13 percent of boys who play football in high school take anabolic steroids and that is just football players. All of these young athletes who take steroids use the drug to become stronger. An average of 8.8 percent of female high school athletes have also tried or currently use anabolic steroids. The crave to have a “buffed body” is a big trend for young adults. A study from the University of Michigan showed that in 1992, 72 percent of high school seniors believed that those using steroids “risked harming themselves” (Are Student Athletes Taking Steroids?). Just
Steroids seem to to be having a negative view for much of history. Steroids are drugs used by athletes to become stronger and achieve a strong physique. Steroids are illegal and are strongly discouraged to be used and may be seen first expressed during high school with the introduction of organized sport teams. The perspective against the legalization of steroids believes in the many benefits of legalization. The perspective for the legalization of steroid expresses the harmful effects of steroids. My view of the subject is that I am against the legalization of steroids.
First lets talk about the physical effects which target the internal and external of the body. According to an article by the Center of Substance Abuse Research(CESAR), “There are two major ways that steroids can affect a person's body. Steroids can have androgenic effects, which include masculinizing effects like deepening of the voice, increased facial hair, and initial enlargement of some male sex glands. Steroids can also have anabolic effects that include increases in muscle mass, the size of some internal organs, and calcium in the bones”. To clarify, The way steroids affect the body is very complex and the androgenic effect can lead to many important physical effects that may help or harm the body function. Even though these effects seem positive they can also be negative effects. For men, the effects steroids have are, it may reduced sperm count, damage the heart, shrink the testicoles, and also it might cause the development of breast. As for women, the negative effects include: shrinking of the breast, iregular menstrual cycles, the increase of acne and hair growth. Steroids have not only a physical effect but also a psychological effect that is more harmful. Have you every heard the term “Roid Rage”?, well this is a real thing. Steroids have been known to cause users to become more aggressive and violent, change the behavior of that person dramastly. What Steroids
Steroids (anabolic) are a drug that was discovered and made by medical scientists in the last 1930’s to help with medical problems. The drug was made to help with many medical problems such as testosterone, growth, sexual functioning, and other medical problems such as helping people with HIV to help grow musical. It also helps with many other diseases. Like any other drug on the market people learn that the drug can be used for many other ways. Steroids can enhance athlete’s performance as well as bodybuilders and is used in almost every sport out there. The use of steroids has become a widespread problem. Steroid use has caused many help problems with the misuse of the drug and has caused the drug to be illegal for people to use them in
The video presented opened my eyes to the effects steroids has on the body and the effect society has on steroids. Before watching this video, I had assumed steroids were a “bad” synthetic drug. Though in reality, it’s a synthetic testosterone and if administered properly it can be used in a healthy manner. Physicians prescribe it for male patients who cannot produce testosterone, or to treat muscle loss, anemia, stunted growth and delayed puberty (CITE). However, most people using steroids do not have an issue producing testosterone, nor any other clinical reason. These people have recognized that steroids are able to enhance their physical performance –strength, speed and enlarged muscles. Unfortunately, those using this substance are putting
According to Yavari (2009), conventionally, anabolic steroids were used to boost athletic performance and appearance by increasing muscle growth while decreasing fat. These steroids essentially raise androgenic testosterone levels within the body therefore, promoting faster muscle growth. However, today these performance enhancing drugs are no longer a preserve for bodybuilders and professional athletes. Instead they are widely by people across all age groups. Students from middle-school to high-school through to college students and adults continuously use steroids for recreational purposes.
In the past three decades, steroids has been becoming a serious problem more than ever in the athletic field. Steroids are anabolic drug "to build" growth hormones that include the androgens (male sex hormones) principally testosterone and estrogen and progestogens (female sex hormones). Steroids were first developed for medical purposes. They're used in controlling inflammation, strengthening weakened hearts, preventing conception, and alleviating symptoms of arthritis and asthma. Unfortunately research has shown that steroids have been abused in almost every kind of sport. Although steroids contribute to a muscular body, usage should remain illegal because they physically deteriorate and mentally destroy the body.
