Case Overview Lisa is a 22-year-old college student majoring in nursing who lives with her parents. She recently stopped going to school because, as she claimed, the Secret Service was watching her. She claims that there have been listening devices installed in her radio and TV in her room. She is afraid to leave the house, stays in her room most of the day, and keeps the curtains drawn. She does not turn on the TV or radio and when her mother came in her room and opened the curtains and turned on some music she became very angry and smashed the radio on the floor. Lisa has never acted in such an aggressive manner before, but this really frightened her mother. Her parents are very concerned about this behavior that began about six weeks ago when she stopped going to class and stayed in her room all day. Her parents report that Lisa was always a little "odd" when she was young and that she believed in things like witchcraft, ESP, and thought that she could read other peoples' minds, but she never displayed behaviors like she does currently. They also say that sometimes she talks to herself in her room as if she's having a conversation with someone else. Lisa's parents reported that Lisa has no history of psychiatric problems, behavioral problems, or alcohol or drug abuse. There is no family history of schizophrenia or other psychiatric disorder; however, Lisa's parents reported that Lisa has an aunt who is rather "odd" and a recluse. They are unable to provide any
At 5am Officer Singh called SA Lyn Brumaire who was on duty at Coral Tower because Jordan Horvat was worried a resident of 902, Stephanie Lee, was missing. Upon keying into the room with PSO Tabiri, the resident in questions, Stephanie Lee was found to be missing from her apt. Officer Tabiri then decided to take a statement from SA and resident Macayla Caso. Ms. Horvat was also not present in the room. Ms. Caso was under the assumption that Ms. Horvat had gone home since she was packing earlier in the day and the sheets were stripped off her bed.
Melissa Barthelemy moved to the Long Island area in 2007 in order to start her own life. Over the two years that Melissa lived there, she was a prostitute and put ads for her service on Craigslist. She stayed close with her younger sister, Amanda, who still lived in Buffalo with their parents. Late on July 11, 2009, Melissa sent a text-message to her sister to confirm Amanda’s visit to see her in a couple days. During the day of July 12, 2009, a local bank had a recording of Melissa depositing one thousand dollars into her account, believed to be from a “date” she had the previous night. Before she left, she withdrew one hundred dollars. The last time that Melissa was seen alive was the afternoon of July 12, 2009 sitting outside her apartment
On May 23, 2016, I was assigned this case to follow up. This case involves Ms. Anjelica Cassidy Grim a 17 year old T.C. Williams High School student. I made multiple attempts to located Anjelica at School and at 27 South French Street (home). On May 27, 2016, I spoke to Sal Gnim (mother) who reported her daughter returned home the next day. She confirmed that her daughter had been out with her boyfriend. Sal told me that they had a conversation and cleared the conflict up. Sal reported that this was the first time her daughter had runaway. I received permission from Sal to speak to her daughter in School.
Penny Ann Beernsten, a thirty-six year old small business co-owner and physical fitness instructor, went through a traumatic experience on the afternoon of July 29, 1985. She jogged at a stretch of Lake Michigan shoreline in Wisconsin. She was planning on meeting with her father at the beach at 4:00 PM and she started the jog at 3:50 PM, but was grabbed and taken to the woods where she was raped and deprived her of oxygen by suffocation until she passed out. When she woke up, she walked out of the woods, where couples comforted her until she found her husband and finally the police. (Possley).
The case of Marci a 22-year-old female college student has several significant psychological, biological, social, and spiritual issues.
In the movie Girl, Interrupted the plot surrounds a period in the life of Susanna Kaysen played by Winona Ryder who was institutionalized at the Claymore mental hospital in the 1960s. In the movie, the main character Susanna is diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and undergoes treatment to which at the end of the movie she is released. It is at this hospital that Susanna encounters many other patients of which she shares many experiences with. One of these patients was the longtime resident and popular amongst all the other patients Lisa Rowe played by Angelina Jolie whom Susanna became close with and would mid-movie escape the hospital with to only return on her own and find that Lisa would be back a few days later. Lisa, while being the protagonist of the movie, was very charismatic in her own way and based on her behavior and revelation in the movie is diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder, particularly a sociopath in the movie.
The second issue appears to be lack of person-group (PG) fit. PG fit is where employees and co-workers generally get along and has similar attributes such as education, values and supporting one another. Hence, this is not the case of PG being visible between Benton and Scoville. From the case this information has been gathered:
history of depression, ADHD, substance abuse and anxiety disorder on both sides of her family.
Lisa is an aggressive sociopath (has antisocial personality disorder). Her behavior can be a sign of schizophrenia or other disorder, which symptoms includes unpredictable emotions, disrupted
There is no indication she has had a manic or hypomanic episode. Her depression may be complicated by grief due to her father’s death one year ago. Her symptoms seem to get worse after his passing.
Throughout the film the portrayal of mental health and the corresponding medical help, in modern times, would be scrutinized for the fact that her questionable psychiatrist was unsure of how to diagnose or treat Susanna. Additionally, throughout the film, there seemed to be a very loose control of Susanna and her actions, almost as if she had gone away to summer camp rather than somewhere she could receive medical help. And if her doctors had believed she was acting childish, immature, and rash this environment would surely only add to the problems. Furthermore, if the filmmaker’s intention was to spread awareness about borderline personality disorder they did not provide an accurate portrayal. The filmmaker left the reasoning and causes for this diagnosis too ambiguous. Susanna was told that she was torn between being sane and insane, however, this isn’t enough evidence to declare she has BPD. In fact, it is more likely that Lisa’s character had BPD as she portrayed more of the symptoms such as instability in moods and behaviors, impulsive actions, and unstable relationships. Susanna was closer in symptoms to someone suffering from depression, but the movie mainly focuses on her struggle with BPD.
The people who live in the house have not left in years, and are obviously troubled. I believe the mental illness the house has, is what we would call “schizophrenia” today. The reasoning behind this theory is that Madeline has catalepsy, a symptom of certain mental disorders. Roderick has hypersensitivity and severe
This disorder is a symptom that is observed in adults and its initial onset, in the 30s. This mental disorder creates significant impairment in social, academic, occupational, or other areas of daily functioning (Dziegielewski, 2015, p.522). More so, the clients emphasize how she has been visiting her parents for the past 15 years, which is a big stress for Caroline and her family. The client stated that if she missed the Sunday dinner in her parent’s house they will never forgive her, meaning such action or plan is totally unacceptable. This particular issue is one of the biggest stress in Caroline life at present, because she is trying to please her elderly parents by keeping with a tradition that is causing more problem in her family.
Tanya’s aunt, who she lives with stated that she Tanya has a history past history of bipolar and refuses to take medication. She stated that Tanya has a history of masturbation, bizarre behaviors such as touching her own feces, screaming when no one else is around, and refusing to bathe for the past
Many people who suffer from this disorder may have suicidal thoughts, bi-polar disorder and also depression .Upon her arrival at the institution she meets some of the patients who she quickly starts to connect and develop a bond with especially with one of the patients named Lisa who is diagnosed as a sociopath. Psychiatrists and psychologists states that a sociopath is someone with a personality disorder who “displays antisocial tendencies that are ascribed to social or environmental factors.” Other definitions include “A pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood.” (Dr.Axe, 2017). With this being said anyone could suffer from a personality disorder and majority of the time it goes unnoticed because we end up blaming other people for the way we feel or react to certain situations. As the movie goes on we are introduced to another woman named Daisy she suffered from compulsive eating disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and also self harm.
