Today, I think back through ambiguous yet awesome recollections, recollections of the life that I have so far spent in Canada. As I was an international student from India, so my institution had already arranged my stay with a Canadian family, this played a vital life changing role. Being new to everything and changing my perception towards most of the things that I withheld during my upbringing in India, was a bit tough and challenging. Beyond the fundamental concern about finding a job and getting started in Canada, is one of the real apprehensions for newcomers to the country. This is especially true for immigrants originating from non-Western societies who wonder what everyday life is like in Canada, and if they will be able to adjust in it. There are different types of laws in Canada: Civil law, Contract law, Criminal law, Family law, Tort law etc. I was aware of these laws but not what they mean in Canada, for example: a civil law deals with all contracts, property and family related issues; whereas it means the same in Canada but the depth is way much different as of Indian law. My Uncle is a lawyer in India, so I’m pretty much aware about few law boundaries but I don’t know much about them and even I don’t know about their consequences. When I first landed to Canada, I never thought of learning Canadian Commercial law. This course has helped me in learning a lot about what is right and what is wrong in business or in general life. Although I was aware not to break
When one thinks of Canada, he/she is most likely to stereotypically comment on a subject regarding hockey, beavers, maple syrup, and cold weather. However, not many stop and wonder about how Canada became the peaceful nation it is today. Throughout Canada’s relatively short and brief history, it has managed to flourish into a strong and powerful nation. Canada’s peaceful identity has been formed with meaningful historic events that have occurred throughout our history. It’s identity has been characterized by Lester B. Pearson's role during the suez canal, their involvement in the Vietnam war, and its engagement in peacekeeping missions around the world.
Anyone who lives or has relatives in Canada know that Canada is a young country that was established about 150 years ago. But a lot of people don’t know in the time span between the 150 years and now Canada (canadian figures) has accomplished many things that may have even shape the world we live in today. In the past 150 years a lot of things Canadian people did cannot even be forgotten, like the likes of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Nellie Letitia McClung, and Harriet Tubman. Canada got their independence not that long ago and it all starts with a man name Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Pierre Elliott Trudeau has done many things how is today to be.
Under the Civil Law system, the laws are written and codified that the judges have to follow verbatium. Whereas, under the common law system that is followed by Australia, India and the United Kingdom, the laws are codified, doctrine of precedents is followed but the higher courts have the power to over-rule old judgements and existing law in cases where the law breaches the basic structure. Canada might have been one of the best places in the world but for me and Tim, Canada is a lot more than that. For Tim O’ Brien’s “On the Rainy River”, Canada is freedom: freedom from the draft letter that pressures him to go to war, freedom from the war that he never understood and always hated, freedom from the dirt, tent, and mosquitoes, freedom from that dense greasy pig-stink and blood clots in the slaughterhouse, freedom from his country, and freedom from his conscience… or is it? On the other hand, for me, Canada is separation: separation from the friends and family who I most
Every community in Canada, whether it is large or small, is a gold mine of diversity, tradition, culture and much history. It’s the familiarity, knowledge of their heritage, and sense of belonging at school, work, home, or their place of worship, that strengthens their identity or who they are as Canadians. If someone identified as Canadian, it means they are a part of Canada’s society. To be Canadian means freedom. Canadians have the freedom to think for themselves, speak what they believe, and live their life with no limits. Because of this freedom, they have certain character traits and qualities. Simply, Canadians contain a certain Canadian attitude, the recognition of Canadian multiculturalism and prominently, Canadian pride.
Since the British North America Act was adopted in 1867, Canada has been developing and writing up their own laws independently from other countries. Many people believe that, though our Canadian laws have come far from the days of the BNA act, they are still not up to par with the harshness of American laws. The advantage that Canadians have over Americans is that in Canada, there is only one criminal code for all Canadians whereas in the United States, every State has their own criminal codes which, unfortunately for the Americans, are not identical. Also, the United States and Canada each have a law that is fraught with the possibility that an injustice will be brought upon those whom these laws apply. In the United States, it is the
In my opinion, the most important law that Canada has is Fundamental Freedoms. According to The Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Fundamental Freedoms, are a group of laws
The Criminal Justice System has many components that make it up. There are many differences and similarities between Canada and America like the culture, religion, and governments. Some of the main differences and similarities being the Criminal Justice System. The Criminal Justice System is the law that is related to arresting, sentencing and punishing people if found guilty with jail time, probation, or community service. In this research paper, I will be stating some of the main differences and similarities between the Canadian and American Judicial System.
Canada is a nation built on immigration, and as the world becomes an ever increasingly hostile place more and more have chosen to try and make Canada their home. This melting pot of different cultures has created an overall atmosphere of acceptance, and is teaching younger generations a sense of community, empathy, and togetherness. Sharing our space and learning to grow with different ethnicities has perpetuated our status as a friendly, caring, and loyal nation, that many are willing to risk everything for in exchange for becoming a part of it.
The proliferation of Canadian women’s movements, notably their redefining role in society, has had a profound propitious impact on Canada’s identity in the twentieth century. The contribution of Canadian women in the cultural life (sports, the arts and dance), the political impact from the leadership role of a female perspective (Nellie McClung) and women’s economic empowerment all contribute to the shape of Canadian history. Our current Canadian national identity has been shaped and developed by events from our past by our determination, doing the "impossible", staying dedicated and true. Also by doing what others thought we couldn 't, proving people wrong and being dedicated to our plans and outlines (Vimy Ridge). By gaining more independence, freedom, equality, rights and responsibilities . By being compassionate, sticking to your words and seeking for new rights (Pierre Trudeau). Even though there are so many past events that have shaped and developed our Canadian national identity, negative things have also done the same but in a negative way. We Canadians are proud of our accomplishments and achievements. We have shaped and developed a great Canadian national identity from the past which we are still making. We have made mistakes and we are still trying to mend those today. Overall our Canadian national identity has been shaped and developed by events in our past by achieving our recognition and milestones, the cultural life (sports,
Canada like Laurence, was forced to face the hardships involved with growing up. However, the black marks in history does not define Canada , it is how Canada learns from their mistakes and moves forward. Laurence explains through her microcosm of a prairie town that along with growth comes the formation of perspective that will forever affect one's future decisions .
The differences between legal rules and other kinds of rules is that criminal law refers to the consequences associated with breaking them. As the substantive law meaning that it is the law of crimes, referring that Criminal law is the code conduct that all in the society need to follow the rule, and the prohibitions on murder, assault, and burglary. Civil law is refers to procedural law to follow the rule of the state from someone that has committed a crime. Which it is divided into 5 categories, for example torts, property, contract, family, and juvenile law.
The Canadian jurisdiction has four levels of courts, except Nunavut, that allocates with criminal cases. The levels of courts are; provincial and territorial courts, provincial and territorial superior courts, provincial and territorial courts of appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada
Immigrants today now have the privilege of entering and residing in Canada but along with this privilege, there are also barriers that impede their integration and deprive them of equal opportunity in the society. The undervaluing of foreign education and credentials has emerged over the years as a huge obstacle faced by recent immigrants who seek employment in the areas that they have been trained, and worked in for decades in their respective home countries. For years, newcomers in Canada have been denied inclusion into the Canadian labour market simply because of policies that were
On February 21st 2014, me and my family immigrated to Canada. It was quite good experience but It was unique because when we moved to Canada I was nervous about my new school and new house, but people around me in Canada were so great that it was so comfortable on the first day of school. Moving to Canada was impactful because it affected my families in many ways: new friends, different culture, different communities and different environment. Many things changed, had different school, new house and different education system but this experience were great. It was unique and learning experience, it is learning experience because I learned that moving from different country is not easy but with help of supportive, welcoming and kind environment it is lot easier (& possible). In conclusion, moving to Canada is on of the most unique experience I gained.
