“I didn’t know I was a slave until I found out I couldn’t do the things I wanted,” was a quotes from Frederick Douglass, a slave before the Civil War. The Civil War saved a lot of slave’s freedom. Freedom to live your life how you to is what I believe America’s Gift to my generation is. Harriet Tubman helped lead slaves through an underground passage that she created; it got named the Underground Railroad. Once the slaves got through the passage, they earned the freedom to live their lives however they wanted to. After “rights” were given to black people, they were forced to go to different schools than white people; those school were worse and the black people did not get as much education as white people.
