Fear is just an Illusion; One that most innocent people can not control. Fear comes to a person when the person does not know what to do and is in an helpless position or in other words insecure.Unfortunately according to many sources a lot of human fear is based on social anxieties and threats. When someone puts one in a situation the person receiving the situation can not control it triggers hyperactivity in the amygdala which causes them to think irrationally. Without knowing what to do these innocent souls end up making the wrong decision and possibly ruin their lives. Through the use of fear, many totalitarian leaders obtain and maintain control over others by using intimidation seeing as when one possesses this emotion it is not possible …show more content…
Hussein is a great example of a person that uses this technique. Neil Macfarquhar of New York Times describes Hussein as “defiant, dictator who ruled Iraq with violence and fear”(MacFARQUHAR). This guy did anything basically to keep control. He killed, tortured, raped and terrorized the Iraqi people and neighbors for over 20 years. Documented chemical attacks by the Iraqi regime caused some 30,000 Iraqi and Iranian deaths. Some examples are chemical attacks on the Kurdish village of Halabja which killed around 5000 people.
Hussain was obsessed with security and force.(Neil). He put fear into anyone that objected him. Everything was named after him like Mosques and airports. After oppressing Iraq for over 30 years he was overthrown in April 2003 as the American tanks penetrated the Iraqi capital in a bloody

During August of 2014, President Barack Obama did authorize airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq. Obama said in a September 10th speech recorded by Jim Sciutto, Mariano Castillo and Holly Yan, CNN. "I will not hesitate to take action against ISIL. This is a core principle of my presidency: if you threaten America, you will find no safe haven." Even with the amount of confidence the 44th president of the United States had, ISIS still found a way to make them back down. Obama’s original intent of the airstrikes as to prevent the fall of the Kurdish city of Erbil and break the siege on Mount Sinjar, where thousands of Yazidis had fled to after being threatened with genocide. Their response to this act was releasing a video of James Foley, an American journalist, being beheaded by a ISIS operative. They warned of more beheadings to come if the United States airstrikes weren’t called
Fear is a powerful human emotion. It can make you do things you wouldn’t normally do, like risk taking and bad choices. Fear can spike your adrenaline. For example if someone was to lift a car off a run over child, that would be caused by adrenaline, which is caused by fear. According to several studies done by physicians
What is fear? Fear is that pit in the back of your stomach, your anticipation to do something, overwhelming yourself for no reason or a nightmare you might have. Most of the time people blame their fear on other people. This is inaccurate; a person only controls there own fears. A person's brain can
Throughout history totalitarian leaders would violate people’s safety, their peace of mind and their freedom to rise to power. For example, Germany lost the war in 1919 which cause the need for reparations and a new leader, that is when Hitler became the leader of Germany and in that time Germany was going through a lot of hard times which caused the people to look forward to the future. Another example of totalitarian leaders in that time was Stalin who used people’s fear to gain trust from his people and cause paranoia in people of that time. Both of these totalitarian leaders violated democratic ideas by violating the safety and freedom of their people to manipulate them and their minds. And then they would oppress the minority group, for example, those who were Jewish were treated badly and killed.
“Obedience is a form of social influence where an individual acts in response to a direct order from another individual, who is usually an authority figure,” thus occurring in Stanley Milgram’s experiment (McLeod). Stanley Milgram wanted to explain why “SS officers had shot, gassed, noosed, and otherwise tortured twelve million people to death, supposedly on order from their commanders in chief” (Slater 31). The explanation the public settled for the reason of the SS officers’ actions was because of the “notion of “the authoritarian personality,” which hypothesized that certain kinds of childhood experiences of a strict, Teutonic cast produced people who would do anything to anyone if instructed” (Slater 31). However, Stanley Milgram knew that, they could not completely explain the actions of the SS officers. To him it was too narrow “he purportedly believed the answer to destructive obedience lay less in the power of personality and more in the power of situation” (Slater 31).
In our world fear roams everywhere. In our streets, businesses, schools, and homes. Fear has caused wars, and treaties. Fear can cause people to start something amazing or horrific. People can change because of fear of a thing.
On April 18, 2016, in Iraq, President Obama sent 10,000 troops along with several Apache attack helicopters. One reason president Obama sent troops to Bagdad, Iraq is because he wanted to show a series of measurements that will broaden the US military campaign against extremist groups. He hopes by the end of the year that the troops will take control of Mosul, an area in Iraq occupied by ISIS. A military official went to the UAE to offer them these Apache helicopters. The UAE declined this offer because they wanted the operation to be stealthy and be in small units. So all of the helicopters stations there were flown back into U.S. territory. The pentagon is happy that the UAE at least took the troops because now the U.S. government has more
During the twentieth century, many people were disoriented and devastated as a result of World War I and the Great Depression. No one had ever dealt with this level of death, carnage, and economic decline before. People were disillusioned by their government and felt that something new would be required to hold themselves together. Ironically enough, people were starving for direction and a sense of order, even though they questioned their government. This need was an opportunity for power-hungry leaders such as tyrants – “one resembling an oppressive ruler in the harsh use of authority or power” (“Tyrant”) – to step up to the plate and take advantage of the situation. Totalitarian governments gave people hope as they promoted signs of security as well as a strong, positive outlook on the future of their
An example of this was the fact the Sokdae ruled with fear when he wanted the children to do something. This idea could be related to Isis and how they do things which cause others to become afraid of them which then prevents others from doing things to stopping their goal. Another example that could be used is how Sokdae would treat the students nicely and cause them to feel a sense of acceptance to make sure that he had more of a control over them. This can be related to how some cults operate. A famous cult where this idea was exemplified was Johnestown.
The Yazidi were systematically targeted by ISIS in a violent campaign to “purify” the region from non-Islamic influences. The genocide sparked interest in multiple large countries while organizations spread awareness. The United States has been a large influence in the country of Iraq in hopes of protecting the Yazidi people from more harm until a plan is made to stop the attacks made by ISIS. During the presidency of Barack Obama, attacks were authorized to protect Yazidi people, Americans and Iraqi minorities. Despite the attack President Obama guaranteed that no troops would be sent for combat. On August 9th, the USA sent 9 airstrikes; with these airstrikes the US airdropped 3,800 gallons of water and 16,128 MREs (Washington Post). The
Bosses have power over their workers, parents have power over their children, and, more generally, we can say that those in authority have power over their minions. The powerful ability of those in authority to control others was demonstrated in a remarkable set of studies performed by Stanley Milgram (1974).Milgram, S. (1974). Obedience to authority: An experimental view. New York, NY: Harper & Row. The dictator I chosen to write my paper is Adolf Hitler. Born in Austria in 1889, Adolf Hitler rose to power in German politics as leader of Nazi Party (the National Socialist German Workers Party). Adolf Hitler was chancellor of Germany from 1933 - 1945, and served as dictator from 1934- 1945. His policies lead to World War II and the Holocaust. The Great Depression in Germany provided a political opportunity for Adolf Hitler. In the year 1932, Hitler ran against Paul von Hindenburg for the presidency. Hitler came in second in both rounds of the election, collecting more than 35% of the vote in the final election. This election established Hitler as a strong force in German politics. Paul von Hindenburg agreed to appoint Hitler as chancellor in order to promote political balance. Hitler then used his position as chancellor to form a de facto legal dictatorship. Having achieved full control over the legislative and executive branches of government, Hitler and his political allies begin organized suppression of the remaining political opposition. On July 14, 1933, Hitler 's Nazi
Paton writes how Stephen Kumalo fails to persuade his brother, that “love is greater than force” and “that power corrupts, that a man who fights for justice must himself be cleansed and purified” (246). Paton reveals that just as leaders take power away, they gain power of their own. Occasionally, leaders will abuse their power, just as the previous person he took power from.
Throughout time violent insurgencies have risen to terrorize the world, especially their masses. Either through support of the people at one point or through savage means, these dictators have created a name for themselves in history and will remain in the textbooks as either a malevolent cold-blooded individual or a brilliant individual with sinister actions. Now, getting these dictators ostracized from power becomes problematic due to the fear that they instilled in their multitude. In multiple cases, fear is a common attribute that tyrants practice as a tool for oppression. By having the masses fear their leader, then the chances of being overthrown decrease because there is no trust amongst each other and repercussions are very common.
During the World War have most of people the leader of group. They use fear as the method of control. In many ways like use to control the military to force the enemies to change their plan. One of the positive example is Adolf Hitler. He was the one that control tons of people by fear.
ISIS has no boundaries in regard to its savagery. In late August 2014, members of the group beheaded American journalist James Foley in apparent retaliation for U.S. airstrikes that targeted ISIS. After his death, the U.S. announced that troops had attempted to rescue him and other U.S. hostages, but they were unable to locate them. ISIS said Steven Sotloff, another kidnapped American journalist, would be killed if the airstrikes continued. President Barack Obama referred to ISIS as a "cancer." ISIS released a video showing the beheading of Sotloff, 31, who worked for Time and other news outlets. ISIS beheaded a third victim, 44-year-old British aid worker David Cawthorne Haines. Alan Henning, a British taxi driver who delivered aid to Syrian refugees, was killed by ISIS in early. The group treats women and girls with particular brutality. Through militants gang rape women prisoners and marry off young girls to fighters. In September 2014, ISIS militants kidnapped and tortured Iraqi lawyer and women's rights advocate Sameera Salih Ali al-Nuaimy before executing her in public. As you can see ISIS has developed there campaign which has proved to be skilled at using social media, high-quality videos, and an online magazine, Dabiq, as both recruiting and propaganda tools
Earlier last week, the United States of America and some of its Arab allies have delivered airstrikes against ISIS in Syria. This was considered, by all who observe the current turmoil in the region, as a very important step that was taken by the U.S. - who refused to participate in military action in Syria since the beginning of the arm conflict 3 years ago - and by the Arab allies - whose participation is considered as a sign of the refusal of radicalization in the region. The mission was lead by the first female fighter pilot, from the United Arab Emirates, Maj. Mariam Al Mansouri.
