Baseball is America’s pastime. Baseball is a sport that is played with a bat, glove, and a baseball. The sport is popular worldwide. Countries around the world have developed their own leagues and have created teams in the leagues to play against each other. The age group for baseball players range from the ages of 5 to about 65. Some leagues are created with age restrictions on them so that play levels can be fair. For example, 5 years olds playing together would be more fair than an 18 year old player playing against the 5 year old. The 18 year old would have a better skill set than the 5 year old so the play would be unfair. The most popular baseball league in the is the Major League Baseball (MLB). The MLB is where the best baseball players in the world play. However, there can be only so many players that can play in the majors, so there are also different leagues where players can play. According to a passage in the 19th Century Baseball website, author Eric Miklich writes that America’s pastime may have originated in Canada. Miklich tells the story of Dr. Adam E. Ford who wrote a letter about a game which had been played in 1838 which was described to have several key differences than baseball. Many people believe that baseball evolved from games played in England- mainly cricket and rounders. Others believe the German game of town ball is where it all started. October 6, 1845 was the first baseball game on record. One of the teams playing that day were the New York Knickerbockers. The Knickerbockers, led by “The Father of Baseball” Alexander Cartwright, are known today as the first official baseball team. Cartwright published the original rules of baseball (Miklich). Throughout the years, baseball has seen it’s fair share of great players and managers while evolving into the sport we know and love today, but not without controversy.
Baseball is a common sport that is played as a team. The goal is to win by having more runs scored than the opposed team. There are nine positions on the field and each has a different job to do. The catcher is a very important position and played by the top skilled people in the MLB. One of the best catchers of all time, Gary Carter, was a greatly skilled man and lived to the fullest he could be in his career of baseball.
Every father loves getting to share his child’s first experience with baseball and playing catch with him for their first time. The history behind the game has such a humbling expression towards the game of baseball, which was first known as “rounder” earlier in the 1840’s in England until it was brought over in the US. In 1871 the Major League was born and by the 20th century most large cities in the US had professional baseball teams. The teams where divided into two leagues, American and National. During the season those teams would only play the teams in their leagues. Teams that succeeded the best during their season win what are called the “pennant” and those teams would meet in what is still to this day called the “World Series”. Soon after, the game spread throughout the country and gained popularity among players and spectators as well, which led to the professional sport of baseball. Competitive baseball became popular in the United States in the mid-1800s and is now one of the leading sports in America. With the design of the field and the job of the players, this sport’s positions primarily make up a defensive team. During the game, it becomes a one-man offense for each hitter. Overall, defensive positions can be broken up into 3 different types: the battery, infielders, and outfielders. The battery consists of the pitcher and catcher, their job is to coordinate the pitch to ensure a strike or miss for the batter. The infielders consist of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd basemen, and shortstop. The first baseman should excel in being able to stretch/reach for the catch so that the opponent gets out. Second and Shortstop tend to get

If a ball is hit on a line drive outfielder has to be ready and that were the mind and body come into play. You have to think how I am going to catch it, because the ball is going to come off the bat fast. I would show the kids to have your feet in ready position. You have to have your glove ready and you have to react has soon as the ball is hit. Catching fly balls are to me the hardest position to play in and I have to have my players ready in case that happens.
Baseball is a fun sport. Out of all sports it is my favorite. Even though baseball is fun, there are a lot of rules a player must follow, but below is a few of the basic.
The three players in the outfield are for catching balls that make it pass the infield and chasing down ground balls. Other key players are the pitcher and the catcher. Lets take a look into why I believe that baseball has not only followed in the footsteps our “Great Country”, but is still “America’s Pastime.” Ask yourself, “is baseball our country’s sport, has it not evolved with our great nation?” The answer is yes, for many reasons. Lets take a look back in history, “President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, as the nation approached its third year of bloody civil war. It applied only to states that had seceded from the Union, leaving slavery untouched
