American History: Our Hope for the Future

Before we go into any specifics, let’s talk about what hope is. Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for certain things to happen within oneself. This, however, is just a definition given in a dictionary which your brain understands. We all know that hope means something much more in our hearts. The hearts of Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Edison, Helen Keller, Susan B. Anthony, and Martin Luther King, Jr. has definitely found the meaning of hope in their hearts.
Let us start from the beginning of the United States of America, the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson was the brave man who wrote this divorce letter to the Great Britain. He thought that his fellow Americans were not treated fairly, and so he and the founding fathers decided that it was time to part ways with England. Even though Jefferson just wrote it he still contributed, with a set goal of having a better future. And with only his pen and paper, he helped his fellow Americans have hope and the will to fight for the future of America. …show more content…

As we all know Thomas Edison was a famous inventor in the late 1800’s. His inventions were the building blocks of what we use now in today’s technology; such as our phones with which we can communicate and the electric lights that we use to see in the darkness. And as we all can see he was pretty successful with his inventions, but being an inventor gives you more chances to make mistakes. His famous quote, “ I have not failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work,” gives me a feeling of hope that says that even though I’ve fallen, I can still get back up. Every time I am in a tight spot, I think of this quote and it gives me hope to push
