I believe the American Dream Act should be applied to many illegal immigrants. Many immigrants who come here for a better life lack the educational needs because it is to expensive for them to go to college. If the American Dream Act ratifies immigrants would need to serve in the U.S. military or go for two years of college for a residency here at the United States. This act might approve, for the reason that there is more democrats as lawmakers. Illegal immigrants don’t even try to harm the U.S. they come here thinking it will give them a better life. So i accept that the American Dream Act purports immigrants and it should be passed.
About half a million children are born to undocumented immigrants every year. These children are not given the opportunities that they so rightly deserve. They spend their entire lives in the United States and are considered illegal immigrants. They are given no choice, but to live their life as an undocumented immigrant. That is what the DREAM Act is trying to solve. The DREAM Act, or Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors is a proposal that would provide permanent residency to undocumented immigrants who meet certain eligibility requirements (The DREAM Act). If the DREAM Act is approved, then the education will be improved. It will improve the economy, the military will receive a significant increase in recruitments, and
The DREAM (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) act is a bill that Congress is trying to pass that would deal with illegal immigration. It allows children of illegal immigrants that were brought into the country the ability to gain citizenship. The DREAM act requires children that were brought into the United Sates before they were 16 to have lived in The United States for at least five years and either serve in the military or finish two years of “higher education” all while making sure to keep up their good behavior. The DREAM act should be rejected because it rewards illegal behavior, fills up jobs that the hardworking Americans deserve, lowers wages, and unbalances the voting aspect of The United States.
First of all, the Dream Act can help the economy. According to a study, it said that if undocumented students and young adults were given legal status under Dream Act in America, the increase of these people access to college or legal jobs would add $329 billion and 1.4 million jobs to the country’s economy. It allow legalized immigrants to invest in the America economy. That can let legalized immigrants to earn higher wages, encourage them to start business, open back account and buy houses in America by stripping out the uncertainty of undocumented status. It can also increase tax revenue significantly and save taxpayers money. The Dream Act also achieve the undocumented student’s dream and keep their talent. It can also let them move to
This paper will examine the impact of the social, cultural and economic factors that benefits for the New York government of investing in higher education for undocumented students through the New York DREAM Act (NYDA). I will also explain the justifications of providing higher education to undocumented immigrant students. According to the Pew Research Center, it is estimated that there are approximately 750,000 thousands undocumented immigrants within New York State (Passel & Cohn, 2014).
The DREAM Act was first introduced in 2001. DREAM stands for Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors. The act was never passed but has been introduced many times. If the DREAM act was to be passed it would give illegal immigrants the chance to attend college, enlist in the military, and possibly gain permanent residency which can lead to citizenship. The DREAM Act should not be passed because it gives illegal immigrants more privileges than it does to people here legally.
In order for immigrants to benefit from the DREAM Act, the criteria previously mentioned must be followed, however, not many immigrants in the U.S can benefit from the DREAM Act because they do not meet one or more of the requirements. According, to the American Immigration Council, there are approximately 65,000 undocumented students that graduate from high school but do not attend college because they cannot afford it. Since not all immigrants fall under these guidelines, they cannot procced with the DREAM Act. This leads to question if the DREAM Act is giving everyone equal opportunity for all immigrants to pursue a higher education or the Dream Act is not living up to the expectations of all.
The DREAM act only benefits immigrants who have graduated high school and therefore offer talent to the American work force. This act also offers financial help towards college to help support them to graduate and work towards a brighter future. These illegal immigrants did not choose to come here illegally, but were brought here by their parents when they were too young to remember. They have grown up side by side to natural born citizens, and because of their parent’s actions, are held back. The DREAM act aims towards giving a hand to the “1.5 generation” by offering them a successful life here in the U.S. that would not only make their life easier, but increase the amount of tax money
A social policy that was discussed in the capstone project is the Dream Act. Higher education is a right in which every one should obtain. However, in the United States some politicians and appointed officials believe that the right to higher education should be given to only legal citizens. The Dream Act is the first legislative that was introduced to give the undocumented individuals a way through citizenship. Dream stands for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors. The Act is a legislation prepared by both the Democrats and Republicans that would allow marginalized students who grew up in the United States a chance to provide to this country by serving in the U.S armed forces or pursuing a higher education. This Act applies to those brought to the U.S as minors by their parents and who know no other home. It is stated by politicians that this Act is good for the U.S economy, security, and for the entire nation. That’s why the DREAM Act has long appreciated bipartisan support. It’s restricted, directed legislation that will allow only the best and brightest young people to earn their legal status after a difficult and lengthy process (the white house, 2010).
To sum up, the Dream Act actually can help a lot of undocumented immigrants in their life or help them to achieve their dream. But it failed to become a law because not many people support this act. So the smart, hard-working children need to face an uncertain future because they cannot continue their education, work, or join the military. They can just live in the dark side and turn away from the light, it is so pitiful. Also, America is missing out a lot of talented workers, vital tax revenues and other economic contributions. So why not let the Dream Act become the law to help the undocumented immigrants.
The Dream Act is on foreign immigrants that want to have the opportunity to come to America for a better education. Discussing the Dream Act’s history background and how it is affecting people in today’s society. According to “Dream Act” states, “In the following years, however, a rising number of states passed their own programs that reflected goals of DREAM, particularly focusing on helping young illegal immigrants gain access to higher education.” The Dream Act debates on whether to pass the form because President Barack Obama has wanted to pass it and give the illegal immigrants a chance to get an education and work in America. This will be addressed in my paper for the American Dream Act on how people in the United States want to give people a chance to become a citizen in America. In addition, the illegal immigrants have a resident home and they do not have to be homeless in the United States because people are willing to help the immigrants to have a better life.
Obviously, the DREAM Act is a life buoy for illegal immigrants that helps them touch their dream of learning in the best education system. The Act supports immigrants with a low in-state tuition, which is affordable with the most of them. As a result, the opportunities to attend to college are wide-opened than ever, and they guarantee immigrants a bright future. By the side, they will have a better chance to receive the U.S. citizenship and become an effective member in the society. The Act has become an amnesty
The Democratic Party has fiercely advocated for the enactment of the DREAM Act. Republicans however have strongly opposed it and have left little hope for any reform for illegal immigrants. However not passing the DREAM Act and stalling on reform for illegal immigrants is doing an injustice to these immigrants and most importantly to American citizens. Today many US citizens suffer from a depleting economy and anything that can help revive it should and must be done. I see the DREAM Act as a great opportunity to aid and provide relief to the economy.
Some people say that we should not have the Dream Act passed nationwide. One reason that it is opposed, is that many think that it sends the wrong message. The message implies that if you can just get your children across the border, you can get your child on their way to becoming a U.S. citizen, allow them the chance to better their lives, and get their parents on their way to becoming U.S. citizens. This is in fact not all true. It’s true that by getting their children here their children are
With the federal dream act law, Immigrants that came from other countries can legally stay in the country without fearing deportation and allowing immigrants or so called “Dreamers” to further their education or academic goal, apply for a job legally and be eligible for a residential driver license although The Dream Act is very helpful there are some pre-qualifications that need to be met. According to Flair Isaiah:
Yes, I think The Dream Act would have been a great law to allow citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants. Yes, the children of illegal immigrants deserve a shot at citizenship and by living in the U.S. contributing to society. They had no choice in coming to this country, but everyone has the right to live the American dream. It is beneficial for themselves to earn a degree and for the U.S. by serving in our military protecting our country. Just like any of us, they are also trying to make a better life for themselves and their
