American Disrespectment

The average American teen is somewhat disrespectful to their parents on a daily basis. Whether it be to their faces or behind their back, we all do it. On Independence Day, people are disrespectful to the American flag. This is according to the flag code which states that nothing should have the American flag imprinted on it. This includes t-shirts, plates, napkins, and the list continues. Americans, in general, are disrespectful on a daily basis. It is part of our nature, but how can we criticize someone and say that they are being disrespectful when, in my opinion, they are not. To me, and others, Colin Kaepernick not standing during the national anthem was in protest for African American rights.
The during the national anthem Colin Kaepernick stayed sitting down, but once he realized that not standing was disrespectful to the veterans and flag of our great nation, he knelt. His actions caused controversy and the attention of the nation, but I do not believe they were disrespectful. Though many people believe he only did it for attention, others know that he was taking a non-violent stand, or kneel, for African American rights.
No one should be forced to stand during these type of altercations. As Americans, we are entitled to our constitutional rights. The Constitution states that Americans have the freedom of speech in the first amendment, and this freedom includes the right to protest as long as we don’t infringe upon the rights of others.
