When I was informed of the possibility to compete for this scholarship I was unsure what to talk about. I’m seventeen and I just graduated from Mount Pleasant Community High School. I currently live in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. This next year I plan to go to the University of Iowa and study Accounting. I have been accepted into the Tippie College of Business as a First Generation Student. I am honored to be a part of the Crooks family name. My parents are James and Kelly Crooks and my sister is Jordan Crooks. My father, James, and my uncle Dave are the sons of my grandfather, David Crooks and my grandmother Maralee Marreel Crooks. My grandfather is the son of Robert Ray Crooks and Eva Mae Rudebeck Crooks. My Great Grandfather had eighteen brothers …show more content…
He joined the armed forces when he was eighteen. After he left the army he met back up with my mom and they soon dated again. He married my mother Kelly Crooks on July 31st, 1993. They then had me on August 6th, 1999. Subsequently, they had my sister on November 12th, 2004. Unfortunately my dad suffered a fall causing a disk and a half to break. This was due to strains he had suffered in his back over the years. The doctors told him he would never walk again, in other words that he would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. However, he proved them wrong as he after six months was able to use crutches. Then after a year of physical therapy and sheer determination he moved from crutches to a cane and braces on his legs. Nowadays despite having partial paralysis in his legs he can walk with little problem and he only uses his cane to balance himself as he walks long distances. When I look at my dad I see a man that has overcame his unfortunate circumstances in his life and has excelled into someone greater. He is someone who I look at and I admire as he shows what hard work and a good drive lead to with the right circumstances. Robert Crooks was born September 19, 1919, near Ionia. He married Eva Mae Rudebeck on January 17, 1940. The couple initially lived in Gladbrook where he lived as a farmer. The couple then moved to Charles City where he worked on the Illinois Central Railroad for four
My parents are Willie M. Reaves and Carmeita T. Jordan Reaves. Through their union they were blessed with three daughters. I am the youngest of three children born on October 1, 1962. My other two sisters are Barbara J. Reaves Cullens, who is the oldest. She was considered the caring one and my sister Pamela A. Reaves, the middle child, she was considered the mad one. My sister Barbara is deceased and my sister Pamela lives in Atlanta.
I am truly honored to accept the Joseph Fleming Endowment Scholarship. Thank you for the honor to receive this scholarship and the assistance for my education from Iowa State University. My childhood dream was to come Iowa State and to study agriculture. I can’t thank you enough for the scholarship award to help me finance my education at Iowa State.
Now that I’ve covered why I financially need this scholarship, let me explain why I have earned it. This past year has been a whirlwind. I ended my junior year with 34 credit hours, 20 of which were earned second
I Shaniqua Adams, a senior mass communication major with an emphasis in Radio and Television Broadcasting and Journalism, believe I deserve the NNPAF journalism scholarship for numerous of reasons. My academic achievements, leadership skills, determination, my love for journalism, financial need and motivation for college is part of the reason why I believe I am a great candidate for this scholarship.
I would like to express my thanks to the Buster Bynum Education Scholarship for allowing me the opportunity for financial assistance through your scholarship program. Being the second child in my family to attend college, I know that college can be expensive. At the age of seventeen, I am the youngest of six children. I learned from my family that they will give me all the love in the world, but when it comes to money I have to earn it. For the past three years I’ve earned my gas and spending money working a part-time job laying sod for Mid-South Enterprises LLC. I am confident that my parents will help as much as they possibly can financially, but with the assistance from scholarships my out of pocket tuition cost can be less.
When she was nineteen years old, she met a lawyer named John Adams. He was a Harvard graduate pursuing a law career. They were married on October 25, 1761. She moved with him to Braintree. Naim Michael Pope, this is the name I was given at birth, and I guarantee you haven’t met someone with my name before. I was born in Long Island, New York, where my parents, Angela and Gregory Pope, raised me for the first three years of my life. Growing up in a Christian household has helped me through adversity I faced through football, school and friendships/relationships. Throughout my life, finances have been the core of my family’s problems. My mom is the sole caretaker of my siblings and I, and she works very hard to take care of my two brothers and one sister. My parents have been divorced since last year July;this has made my senior year of high school much harder; financially speaking. This scholarship
As upcoming high school seniors, many such as myself, desire scholarships in order to alleviate the financial burden that attending a university can bring. Though this considerable and generous scholarship prize money will be used to further my education at Texas A&M University, my main wish is to bring pride and satisfaction to my family. As a first generation student, I am humbled by the opportunity of obtaining an education in America. Since my parents were migrants from Vietnam and Hong Kong, a successful life here was unheard of many years before. Financial strains do occasionally plague our lives, however, we have not forgotten the strenuous hard work and sacrifice that my parents have conquered in order to put their two daughters through
In the fall of 2015, my twin sister and I started at Texarkana College. With the help of Texarkana College’s Presidential scholarship, we were financially able to set out to be the first in our family to graduate college. With finances always being a family struggle I grew

I was awarded the Drexel Liberty Scholarship in 2015, but today, while reflecting on my college career, I am more appreciative of your donation than ever before. The past couple of months have not been the easiest for my family and I, but thanks to your donation, my financial standing at Drexel was not an additional burden. Furthermore, this scholarship has given me the privilege to advanced my education in my dream school and enjoy the perks of being a Drexel student, such as co-op.
National Honor Society is more than a club I am apart of, it has given me the motivation to strive to keep my grades at a certain level, keep up with community service, treat others with respect, and also conduct myself in a mature manner. The National Honor Society Scholarship would help fund my schooling at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Florida.
When I look at my dad, I can see accomplishment beaming from him. He grew up with my grandparents in South Texas, who were migrant workers. They didn’t supply the best of income, so my father grew up with the bare minimum and basic necessities, with 5 younger brothers and sisters. During high school, my father struggled a bit with grades and family issues. After graduating, he decided to join the military, since school was not his best interest and felt he had nowhere to go. He would explain to me how he would barley pass his classes with D 's, since D 's were considered passing at the time. For eight years, he served for our country in the Navy. Soon afterwards, he met my mother, began dating, and eventually got married within a year. Another year passed and that’s where I came in. Soon after my father with no job, after
I would like to share with you how grateful I am to have been selected for the First Generation Scholarship. Being a first-generation student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in my family is both exhilarating and intimidating. I never fathomed being able to manage the cost of higher education, nor believing the probability of being selected for a scholarship. Opening the letter and reading the words, “Congratulations, I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected…”, was one of the most surprising and emotionally charged moments of my life. I simply could not believe what I was reading, especially considering that this was the first and only time I have applied for a scholarship. Too many times I heard how it was impossible to get one because there are too many people applying – it would be like winning the lottery. I would hear how it was a waste of time and not worth the
My father is the oldest son of his family. He has nine siblings, four brothers and five sisters. He is a very hard worker individual. He started working at a very young age in order to help his family. Right after he graduated from high school, my father enrolled in the air force. My father is a very persistent man; he does not give up easily. He is a very happy go lucky person. He is really social and outgoing, always making jokes, telling stories and making other people laugh. He is really passionate about drawing and designing things. He enjoys working with his hands and going outdoors. He is more adventurous than my mother.
