Reading books was the last thing I would do in my whole life. Notwithstanding, “American Crime Stories” retold by John Escott has changed my mind. The 7 stories in this stunning book are astonishing and stunning in view of the fact that this is not only a simple thriller book but also a reflection of the corrupt world. At first glance, the book includes 7 crime scenes planned carefully, which made me tremendously curious and could not ignore them. The story initially began with an enigmatic man who was about to commit suicide in a silent night, but then I realized that it was his brilliant scheme to wreak vengeance on his rival. Secondly, a poor victim accidentally murdered by the suspect, her husband’s sister, was haunting all the members in her family for twenty years. Subsequently, a maniac in the third story who was eager to be admired by everyone burned down her boss’s mansion deliberately in order to rescue the innocent children and become a heroine. Additionally, the crime scene in the fourth story confused me absolutely inasmuch as the woman whose husband was executed by riding the lightning was truly a mysterious mastermind behind the reason for his death sentence. Next, the fifth story told me about the villainous killer attempting to slay his beloved wife and his faithful partner so that the wife could be forever with him and his alibi would be protected. Smart homicides, evil relatives, insane babysitters, betrayed wives, heartless husbands, wicked victims and dangerous princesses were narrated in 7 stories. Because of the immense avarice and bottomless desires of humans, they were willing to become servants of The Devil, throw away their conscience and eradicate anyone against them without mercy. The line between the good and the bad is fragile, so people are easily tempted by the seductive surroundings and transformed normal people into atrocious criminals despite their feeble and cute appearances, just like the princesses in the seventh tale.
