September 11th, 2001, is the event where the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, occurred. The attack resulted in over two thousand deaths and six thousand injuries. 15 years ago, America was not officially engaged in any wars and the United States deported half the amount of people that they do today. This attack impacted America’s views on safety and vigilance notably. After being hijacked, four commercial planes deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The fourth plane, although intentionally going to the U.S. Capitol, crashed into a grass field in Pennsylvania due to the passengers fighting back. This occurred because of the easy access to planes in 2001. 9/11 not only changed the security for America but is now resulting in an increase of terrorism in the United States. Not even a month after, troops invaded Afghanistan in an attempt to dismantle al-Qaeda, the terrorist group who committed the 9/11 crimes. The military involvement in Afghanistan now turned into the longest-running war in U.S. history. From the significant amount of fatalities to the involvement in the war against terrorists, 9/11 has a major effect on our society and changed history. 9/11 was a terrorist attack committed by an Islamic extremist group, known as al-Qaeda.
