America is becoming a third world country whether citizens want to believe it or not. Over the years, our country has been struggling economically, physically, and socially. Our economy went through a recession in 2009. Many citizens lost their jobs and many businesses started cutting wages for workers. Since then, our country has not been the same thriving superpower it once was. People from other countries have visited America and claimed America looks like a third word country (Marshall). How does this make American citizens feel? On April 14, 2015 the census bureau announced that 93,175,000 citizens of working age are not in the workforce because of how difficult it is to get a job (Roberts). Many roads, railroads, bridges and other structures go unrepaired for years resulting in a need to be replace them instead of just repairing (Marshall). America is becoming a third world country due to the infrastructure, income issues with citizens, violence, and the candidates running for president. America is at the brink of becoming a third world country and anyone can see how it is through the American economy. Many Americans have low income jobs or are unemployed, and businesses are leaving the U.S. to continue their operations overseas (Roberts). The economy is a main foundation of America and if it is not doing well then the country as a whole is prosperous. Currently the unemployment rate is twenty-three percent (Roberts). That is a very high rate compared to past when
The unemployment rate in America is a huge factor with noticing on how well the labor force has been doing in the past. Overall the unemployment rate in America has been slowly decreasing in the past couple of years. “The unemployment rate hit 10 percent in October [2009], and there are good reasons to believe that by 2011, 2012, even 2014, it will have declined only a little” (Peck). It is a slow process, but hopefully in the future it will not be a problem anymore. Another statistic that should be looked at is the poverty rate in America. “The official poverty rate in 2006 was 12.3 percent, down from 12.6 percent in 2005” (U.S. Census Bureau). The poverty level has relatively remained level and has not changed drastically. The poverty
The unemployment rate has dramatically increased over the last several months. This increase has created many complications for the American people. Although the United States economy has created over 7 million jobs, there is still a long way to go until the economy is back on track.
Summary: America’s economy has been the biggest, most powerful in the world for a long time now. Other countries are decreasing their economic status and eventually going bankrupted because America is so powerful.
What must the U.S. economy look like, when viewed through the everyday experiences of the working poor? Is America the land of opportunity or simply an economic trap from which there is little chance of escape? Taking a short view of the economy, where one low-wage job looks much like another and mobility is a challenge, the working poor are in an economic vise; squeezed by high prices for basic commodities like housing, food and gasoline on one end and unable to change their basic job situation on the other.
Americans have the highest standard of living of any civilization ever to exist. Our technology and ease of access to everything afford us lifestyles never achievable to all previous generations. Jobs, cars, and opportunities are equally available for almost everyone. Almost. As a result of the last recession there is an abnormally high number of people living below the poverty line and many more living on welfare. Many people in the United States fear that they cannot provide enough food to their families and barely have the ability to fuel the own cars to get to work. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the rate of poverty ceased to decrease about ten years after the implementation of anti-poverty
Everyone knows what the word poverty means. It means poor, unable to buy the necessities to survive in today's world. We do not realize how easy it is for a person to fall into poverty: A lost job, a sudden illness, a death in the family or the endless cycle of being born into poverty and not knowing how to overcome it. There are so many children in poverty and a family's structure can effect the outcome. Most of the people who are at the poverty level need some type of help to overcome the obstacles. There are mane issues that deal with poverty and many things that can be done to stop it.
The table 1 and Fig 1 reveal the yearly Mean employment rate for the entire U.S and the state of Texas. In 1948, the unemployment rates was 3.75% in 1948, however, the unemployment rates have jumped to approximately 8.1% in 2012. Similarly, unemployment rates decline
More than 800 million people in the world are malnourished, 777 million of them are from the developing world (Raphel, S., 2014). Poverty is an issue that must be addressed to the population loud and clear or everyone will end up suffering. There are many families trying to survive and live from paycheck to paycheck. Unfortunately, there are some families that are unable to support himself or herself or any family member. One important key issue of poverty in the United States is inequality. Many Americans blame the poor people for their own fate but you should never judge a book by its cover. There can be many reasons why an individual or families end up in poverty. For example, low wage jobs, discrimination and social inequality, vulnerability to natural disasters, war and political instability. Another big issue we face today is child poverty. This is a very critical issue because these young children are our future. If we let these children live in poverty, there is a higher chance they will drop out of school, look for work in order to support their family, or give up in life.
Consistently broadcast on the evening news, we visually observe the financial ailment of many countries. The economic disparities between the United States and other nations are extensive. Outsourcing American jobs are still not enough for struggling nations, but why? The conditions in peripheral countries on things such as roads, vehicles used, and the homes broadcast are just a few of the images continuously televised on a nightly basis. With this in mind, what is it that makes our condition differ from the others? As a core nation, the United States appears to have the best of everything while the peripheral countries strain. The upper-class Americans have it all. What allows the rich countries to afford these luxuries? Visibly projecting a high-quality lifestyle, core countries eagerly forecast attractive homes, the latest fashions, beautiful cars and our core nation provide an appropriate infrastructure. All of this comes at a cost in which the middle and lower classes suffer.
While there are expectations of a yearly gain of nearly 2.3 million net new jobs, the unemployment rate is still very high i.e. around 6.5 percent. The lower-than-expected job growth is fueled by various factors including government hiring, weather, and Obamacare. Actually, similar to December, January had a lower-than expected increase in job opportunities since only 113,000 jobs were created. However, the rate of unemployment still reduced to 6.6 percent in this month despite of the growth in labor force. The current rate of unemployment is the lowest in U.S. since the 2008 recession because more people are leaving the labor force instead of finding jobs.
Many reforms in the UnitedStates have been passed to help fight against the “War on Poverty”; but it has not been effective in eradicating poverty in the U.S. There are about 46 million people who are living in impoverished conditions and poverty continues to be a social issue in this country (Heritage Foundation, 2011) In the beginning, our country was formed under the belief that “this land is the land of opportunity and if we worked hard enough the American Dream can be gained” (Schwarz, 1997). People immigrate to this country today in hopes of becoming rich so they could gain a better life. In spite of coming to this country for a better life, many are faced with the lack of skills and money to succeed. In the end, most will end
Many of Americans today do not take the time to realize that our nation is little by little falling apart. Our leaders are corrupt, our environment is being destroyed, and there are thousands of children being born each day. The three major social problems facing the American citizens in the 21st century are births to unmarried woman, being able to trust or government and or leaders, and lastly destroying the environment.
The issue of poverty in the United States seems to lie on the grounds of race education and family structure. As expected I found that educational levels paralleled poverty levels. Unexpected , research was found to prove that race did in fact play a substantial role in poverty. Family structure along with other influential factors either locked an individual into poverty or provided a means for escape from the continuing cycle. Other factors contributing to poverty was the location of homes or neighborhoods and the accessibility to better paying jobs.
Two other major indicators come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate in March 2008 was 5.1% and today it is 7.7%. The 5.1% figure is around normal for that period of time, while today's figure is an improvement over the levels of the past four years. It is worth considering that unemployment is a lagging indicator, but even with that it is clear that the economy is doing more poorly today than it was in early 2008.
A crash in america may be coming a lot sooner than many people think. The United States of America is facing problems a lot of people are either unaware of or just dont think its a big deal. Most of america think that our economy and government is in alright financial shape, That may not be the case though. America is in bad shape and it seems to be going down hill. America is declining in world power as well and this is just another factor leading to a crash in the future. Other nations are growing a lot more powerful than they have been in the past causing very big problems as a nation.
