Ama-Terasus, From The Greek Myth Of The Trojan War

All throughout history, there has been a fine balance between government and family. Millions go off to war to fight for their country, while leaving their precious lives and families behind. Hector, and many other Greeks and Trojans, had to go off and fight for their loved ones and defend their beloved country. In the same way, Ama-Terasu had to push away her own brother, so she could focus on her own duties and rule over the land. Hector, from the Trojan War, and Ama-Terasu, from the Japanese Myth, are two perfect examples of two people/gods finding perfect peace between defending their countries and being with their loved ones for all of their days.

In the Greek myth of the Trojan War, Hector had to say goodbye to his family, knowing that he may never be able to see them again. His wife, Andromache, begged him to stay, as they had just had a new baby boy, Ajax. At the sight of Hector, Ajax bursted into tears in fear as he was wearing a helmet, and he didn’t recognize him right away. As soon as he took off his helmet, he clung to Hector acting as if he had never been apart from him. Hector knew what he had to do, so he walked away with tears in his eyes. Sadly there wasn’t a happy ending, Hector died in the war, and his wife was later separated from their son, as he was brutally killed.

Meanwhile, in the Japanese mythology, Ama-Terasu wasn’t in a war, although she still had to choose her job, and send her brother away forever. Sosa-no-wo had come to see Ama-Terasu and
