Being determined means that you can reach and strive for anything, even if your not strong or smart enough. Both Althea Gibson and Barbara Jordan share many things, but best of all is the fact that they are very successful African-American women. But of course, what makes them so successful? Both woman strived for success to be great African-Americans who have accomplished many things. Although they can compare to be great African American role models, they may also compare to their determination. This is true but they may also differ, they both are very successful but their achievements are completely different.

First and for most, both women were determined to reach for their goals, even if their race and gender held them down. Althea Gibson, instead of giving up knowing that she will never enter one of the world-wide tennis tournaments she kept trying. Raised in Harlem, New York she still trained and soon won many tennis titles and was the first African-American woman in a woman's tennis league. Knowing that are both African-American women who may compare in many ways but the way that have succeeded were completely different. Althea Gibson was a athlete and Barbara Jordan was put into law and politics. Both completely different, Althea Gibson wont even need to go to a school for a scholarship, when Barbara Jordan went to law school and served in many positions in politics. Within the article "Barbara C. Jordan" written by Vitor Paiva, she is referred "Texas congresswoman" which means she was known for her politics. On the other hand, in the article "Althea Gibson" written by Vitor Paiva, she is referred as "First Black Champion". I can connect this to The Hunger Games when Katniss is referred to as the Mocking
