After watching the “Alive Inside” documentary, I felt a mixture of emotions since there were both heartwarming and tear-jerking scenes shown throughout the documentary. One example of a heartwarming moment was when Henry said, “[Music] gives the feeling of love and romance. I figure right now, the world needs to come into music [singing]. You've got beautiful music here”. One example of a tear-jerking moment was when I watched Denise's response to the music. I also remember Denise said, “I have a very vivid imagination. I'm very resilient. Then I drop and I keep on trying and then I drop, but I never stop and I drop. One of these days are as true as the days I'm on the floor”. These two examples reminded of the time when I had the chance to go perform with my church's choir for the residents at the local nursing homes here in the Tacoma-Seattle area. Back then, I also felt a mixture of emotions since it was hard for me to see the residents being all sad and down. But, after the performance, I felt so happy and warm seeing the residents' happy facial expressions and body gestures since it showed how much they enjoyed the music. The residents asked us to do an encore, and they started …show more content…
Originally, Henry was known as the resident who was very isolated (he didn't talk much to others) and had his head down most of the time, but after the music started playing, he was so expressive (His eyes were wide-open, he started moving both his arms and legs, and he started singing). Originally, Denise was shown displaying different types of emotional extremes such as crying and ranting, but after she started listening to Schubert, she pushed away her walker that she used for 2 years and started dancing with Dan (she started smiling and
From the creation of harmonies to singing to instruments, music has been an abstract form of human expression. Although an auditory collection of pitches and volumes, musicians can manipulate the same notes and bring them alive for their audiences. The true emotion and energy that’s felt in music really comes from the player as feelings are transferred to and through the listener. This interaction between performer and the house is catharsis, the complete release of strong repressed emotions. Thanks to the musician, music has the ability to grasp people and cause them to sense emotions and feelings without lyrics or images even being necessary. Although it’s believed we can only hear with our ears, something about music makes it emotionally if not physically tangible. In James Baldwin’s short story “Sonny’s Blues,” a narrator certainly unaware of the impact of music invites himself to experience jazz for the first time. Baldwin uses the final scene of his story to argue that music has an effect on those who are able to experience it. Baldwin does this in one single moment by letting the fixed, practical minded, “well-intentioned” narrator experience catharsis from jazz as his growing, free-spirited brother communicates with him through jazz.
Not only does the image of the performance have a significant impact on the audience, but the lyrics, and the meaning behind them, has a significant impact on me. According to song facts, “In the end only kindness matters, was inspired by a doctor that treated her for a serious kidney infection when she had no medical insurance and was turned away by the hospital” I can really connect and relate to the meaning behind these lyrics. They hold a special place in my heart; when I was very young I was diagnosed with Kawasaki’s disease. Unfortunately, many doctors turned my family away, but a specialist flew down and tried whatever he could to figure out what was wrong. He finally diagnosed me with Kawasaki’s disease; he took time out of his week, away from his family, to help another family in need. If it wasn’t for this doctor, I wouldn’t be alive today. Which really ties in to another lyric, “My hands are small I know, but they’re not yours they are my own” (Jewel Kilcher, lyrics) which to me, means no matter how small you are, you can make a big difference in this world that we live in. That doctor, saved my life, being one person out of billions in this world, she made an impact that will hold a print on my heart and my family that will last a
In this memoir “Amazing Grace” by Korinthia Klein reveals how something as simple as music could have a profound effect. Further into the story when the narrator finds out when her grandfather was sick, she felt negative emotions such as sadness, wistfulness in g. 1, “He looked so small among all the white sheets, and I had never thought of my grandpa as small in any sense”, but before when her grandfather was still well, she felt positive feelings such as joy and hope as said in pg. 1, “I played my violin for him when he visited, and he loved everything” and “My grandpa used to applaud when I tuned, and I would roll my eyes and shrug off his enthusiasm as too biased”. The author learned that little things such as music can have a deeper meaning
Without a doubt, his statement allows others to sympathize with those who are not capable of deciding where their children may go, but rather placing their child’s future in a bouncing ball. In addition, the usage of dismal music that corresponds to the definitive moment in the documentary appeals to the audience. In particular, Guggenheim applies this specific tone of music in times of children crying as well as times showcasing the families laying their best efforts to reach the most exceptional outcomes for their children and their children’s futures. By doing so, the audience can envision this scenario in their own shoes, which provides an element of

The connection between mind, body, and spirit is difficult to conceptualize but one cannot deny that the three are interrelated and all core components of a person. The American Nurse: Healing America is a film that follows the lives of five nurses working in settings and populations such as prison, poverty, war veterans, elderly and hospice patients. The film highlights the numerous ways in which nurses address not only the physical needs of their patients, but their emotional and spiritual condition (Franks & Jones, 2014). Carolyn Jones, the film’s director, follows each nurse through their day-to-day and conducts interviews on the dynamics of their profession and the population that they serve.
Bodies Online Video Essay The documentary, Shocking Bodies Exhibition, was published in 2014, which mainly discusses a plasticized Body Worlds museum that the public can attend at any time and then further discusses ethical concerns. This documentary was brought about because 20/20 wanted to investigate more into the plasticized bodies’ origins. They were curious where the bodies were coming from and if they were the bodies of executed prisoners. Throughout this paper, two ethical issues, a theoretical view point, and why I support these exhibits will be further discussed Two Ethical Issues & Theoretical View Point
In today’s world, music is seen as a way to express one’s feelings of anger, sadness and happiness. Within Jonas’ community, these feelings do not exist
The distance from the performer and the audience was so close, allowing you to speculate every single emotion being produce throughout the concert. The room itself had a very tall ceiling which made this unique echo that amplified the instruments sound. The audience seemed very profession as total silence was the only response they had until the end of the piece .The concert overall was a great experience and I look forward to attending another chamber music concert soon.
The audience seemed to feel it as well, the applause after each song just as strong as the previous one. Overall, the experience of getting to watch the musical I had been wanting to see in person for over a decade was beyond amazing. Never before had I witnessed a musical as vibrant and exciting as Cats. The ending to Cats was also enjoyable as Grizabella, the outcast everyone had at first rejected for her ragged and aged looks, was able to be reborn once more, hence given a second chance at life.
At the start of the performance there is only a few musicians playing with the children looking on in confusion and the elderly looking on in anticipation. The reason for this I believe because it is just a performance in the middle of the street of a mellow sounding song. As the song continues to grow in sound by more and more musicians coming the kids get more excited and happier as do the elderly. The sound of the music changes from mellow and sad to more heroic and happy. This perhaps invokes memories of a superhero or something similar that brings happiness to these people. I really thought it was a stroke of genius how more and more musicians come to play it gives it a more epic feel to go along with the more epic feel that the music was starting to sound like. I had a similar reaction I was wondering why they would use such a slow moving song to play in this environment. It became apparent to me when more players came out and the sound of the music changed. It was a build up to the moment when the music switched. I felt a similar excitement that the people there watching live
In conclusion, when the concert was over, I was able to feel all the energy and passion that the musician had for the each of their songs that they played or
It may be the time that they need the most support and help being cared for. For some patients it may be hard for them to accept the help or be seen in their condition by unfamiliar people or even their family members. The video reminds us that the patient has feelings, emotions, a life outside of the hospital, and had experienced many event throughout their life before being in your care. Sometimes we forget that the patient is not just a patient, but an individual who has feelings, emotions, and is reacting to the way that we treat them and react to them.
audience was very supportive and clapped for everyone, even if they messed up a little bit. They all helped set the mood for each performer that played.
The vibrations from the drums felt like they were beating in my chest. The guitar pierces through my ears and the singer’s voice is so dark and deep, it sends shivers down my spine. It was exhilarating, it was my first concert.
