Hearing this is like the summary of life itself. I felt like this related to Alex like no other character in this book. Alex herself was in the revolution, as told in her own diary. Despite the fact, that Alex was in the revolution, even if she had wanted to change what happened, it would be impossible. I personally loved how Donnelly structured and brought this sentence to life. It’s hard to perceive the whole concept behind what the author is trying to illustrate, but what I can understand from this is to try to only worry the things that you can control. If you can’t control it, then simply let it go. In the story Alexandrine’s dairy was an emotional roller coaster, with things you would never expect to happen. In this novel, we can see
If an individual possesses the trait of determination, they will be able to not only seek the truth, but ultimately, accept it. Alex is driven to acknowledge and fight for the truth through her determination to not allow Carter to take advantage of her, and to not give him
This book has me wondering “What exactly is going to happen next?” As the plot and the pace of the story is very unpredictable. The book also has it’s ways with mentioning important characters in the beginning of the story with brief detail, “But the laughter of a gold-toothed man brought them back to their senses.” The man who was laughing is later revealed as Freddie, the Janitor. The book also has some very powerful symbols, as the Bible is mentioned a few times, and one of the character’s names are from the Bible, “He had cooperated as a young father with a blind selection of names from the Bible for every child other than the first male, and abided by whatever the finger pointed to, for he knows every configuration for the naming of his sister.” Slavery is among one of the very powerful symbols, as Macon Dead Sr. was never able to read, and was often tricked into signing things due to the fact that he was never able to read, Macon seemed like one of the most hard-working characters so far.
During the Cold War, the Soviets were trying to spread communism throughout Europe and Asia by exalting its achievements, and undermining democracy. Part of their approach was by launching ‘Hate-America’ propaganda. “As the Cold War intensified, the Truman administration launched an aggressive “Campaign of Truth” […] to counter the Soviet Union propaganda machine (Ubah, 2012).” The Campaign of Truth was created to help convince the world that the United States has “no purpose of going to war, except in the defense of freedom. (Vaccaro, 1950)” Truman encouraged the media to show the world that the United States was ‘wholly dedicated to the cause of peace (Vaccaro,
According to “Got Your Dairy Today?,” three foods that are not part of the dairy food group are butter, cream, and regular cream cheese. The 16th century was a time of creativity, discovery, exploration, and invention. The Cheese and the Worms, written by Carlo Ginzburg, tells the story of Domenico Scandella. The book explores Scandella’s, otherwise known as Menocchio, world-view at the time. Menocchio was a miller who was tried for his unorthodox religious views and eventually burnt at the stake for heresy in 1599. During this time, Menocchio was seen as special as he was a peasant who could read, a peasant who had an education. Ginsburg’s display of Menocchio’s views gives the reader an insight into peasant culture. The peasant culture experienced many grievances as they suffered in their daily lives with little opportunity for survival. Their only opportunity of survival was working for landlords on the land. Peasants had little to no money and it did not help that they were being controlled by the church. The people were unaware that history was occurring but the Protestant Reformation, the Renaissance, the Inquisition, and other historical moments during the time were all relevant to the typical European peasant Menocchio as most of his ideas were caught in the currents of the 16th century.
One of the important things during the time of the Renaissance was food. Food was very important to the people. They cooked and served food in a unique way. Others had ovens and others did not. Others who did not have ovens, they cooked their food over an open flame. In Renaissance times, food relied on what your social class is. There were the upper class people and lower class people. The upper class people had more choices of what they wanted to it and the lower class people didn’t have many choices of what they wanted to eat. Some of the foods were expensive. For them to have food they had farm. The upper class owned farms and they planted crops and harvested the crops for food. They raised animals for them to have meat and milk.
As I sit like the rest of us quietly and surprised I nudged a close friend of mine
The kind of food that people ate during the Renaissance depended on where they lived and whether they were wealthy or a peasant.
“I didn’t leave because I stopped loving you, I left because the longer I stayed the less I loved myself.” Like the leaves on a tree, every person has unique experiences. Just like trees, we can not grow for others, they must grow for themselves. The more I go through life, the more I realize this to be true. My sister always says that we can’t make people change, they have to want to change and then make those changes on their own. It isn’t healthy to focus on fixing someone when it tears you apart just to do so. This book reinforced all of this. This book made me feel right in my actions. I have to fix myself before I can even think of fixing someone else.
In the case study, Gourmand and Food-A Fable, the chefs, residents, and restaurants are representing physicians, hospitals or health care settings, and insurance companies. The study describes the residents of Gourmand and how much they love good food. How residents in Gourmand pay for their food at restaurants, can be compared to our health care system in the United States. Throughout the study, the government decides to change how food is paid for, so that all residents are able to have access to good food.

Abstract – Yogurt is a product of lactic acid and lactose. In order to produce yogurt, milk is pasteurized (at 45 degrees Celsius) and the inoculum is added followed by incubation. Over a period of 7 days, yoghurt fermentation was attempted using lactobacillus cultures. A liter of milk was supplied and plain yoghurt was used as a starter culture as it contains the necessary bacteria to ferment lactose and produce lactic acid. The milk was added to a flask: then boiled, cooled and inoculated. The milk was incubated for a week and all the while the milk was tested for changes in pH, density, mass and physical changes. The values obtained were then used to determine the growth kinetics of Lactobacillus bulgaricus.
