I think Alexander deserves the title of Alexander the Great. He was 20 years old when he launched his invasion into the Persian Empire. The evidence I will use are these documents. The legend of the helmet, document D. The battle of Porus, document B. Alexander's empire compared to the Roman Empire, document A, E. I think Alexander was great, because of the size his empire and how little time it took him to make. He created an empire of 2,000,000 square miles in only 11 years. The Roman Empire is 2,200,000 square miles, but it took them a very long time to make and many rulers. The Romans had a lot more soldiers than Alexander did when they were making their empire. At the battle of Porus he couldn’t cross the river because of Porus’s elephants. He moved all his troops up and down the river until Porus stopped following him. The night Porus stopped he left 5,000 of his men across from Porus and crossed 10 miles up stream with 10,000 soldiers. He caught Porus by surprise and surrounded him. Porus’s elephants got scared and started to trample their own men. Alexander had his cavalry circled around Porus and then he sent in troops in the form of a phalanx and killed Porus’s men and won. In The Legend of the Helmet Alexander shows how much he cares about his men by doing these actions. He and his men are walking across the desert and they have no water so, Alexander sends off some of his men to look for water. They find a little trickle of water that was flowing into a little puddle. They take a drink for themselves and put some water in a helmet and bring it back to Alexander. Instead drinking the water he dumps it out so that he is equal to his men. He wouldn’t just drink the water and then have his other men being thirsty, having not drank any water. Those are the reasons why I think Alexander is great. He built an empire of 2 million square miles in 11 years. He is great at planning attacks. He cared a lot about his
