Alexander The Great: A True Hero

Alexander the Great was the king of Macedonia, conqueror of the Persian Empire, and one of the greatest military geniuses of all times. Even at an early age, Alexander had the promise to become a great leader. Through all his victories and conquests, he has become a great hero and has had a large impact on history. That is why I chose he book Alexander the Great, by J.R. Hamilton for my review. Hamilton does a very good job with the story of Alexander the Great.

The first reason why I believe Alexander is great is because of his strong strategy. All leaders have their own strategy but in order to be remembered in a positive way their strategy needs to be unique. In Document A a map is shown with a key and in the map, you can see that Alexander was able to travel immense distances and conquer many cities along the way.

A third reason is he was very greedy. One way he was greedy is while they were on their journey, they conquered 2 million square miles and named 11 city-states after himself and none after his men. Also, when his men stopped him in India he reluctantly turned back even though he didn’t want to. If they kept going they probably would’ve conquered most of Asia.

He conquered 2,000,000 square miles of land before he died, and the size of the Roman Empire at its greatest is 2,200,000 so Alexander did most of the expansion. He found about 70 cities, one of them was Alexandria one of the most popular and wealthiest cities at the time in Egypt. He has killed roughly 100,000 enemies before his death. Alexander influenced many things, such as the religion Buddhism in India and the Greeks official language of Jordan stayed for 1,000 years. He influenced music, dances and the worship of his gods with India.

Alexander the great Hero or Villain Is Alexander a hero or villain? In my opinion I think Alexander is a villain. Alexander did lots of bad thing. Even though he did do some good things that does not make him a hero same with bad.

Alexander the Great the king who took the throne around the age of 20. This young man was the heir of Philip II, since it was his father. After his father was assassinated he took the throne. In 323 BC he was working on plans for new projects, including beginning new cities, when he caught a fever. Not much later on he died at the age of 33 years old. Historians believed that Alexander was a hero for the many lands that he conquered, the Greek culture that was spread and that he has never lost a battle. Although he did have these achievements there is a lot that he has done that composes him to be a villain. Alexander the Great did many terrible things that makes him a villain, he put many people into slavery and also slaughtered people, there was no respect for the citizens, and he did not care about architecture that was made.

He may have done questionable things but look at all the good he did he united all the barbaric tribes did lots of good people thought of him as a god and he inspired the hearts of men in battle. After Alexander the great created his vast empire he united the barbaric tribes and calmed down there savage and barbaric customs and had a long lasting peace with the tribes and let them believe in their own religions.

The difference between a hero and a villain should be obvious, the hero defeats the villain and saves the land, however what happens when someone decides to conquer other lands for the benefit of his own, that is in fact a villainous act. Alexander the Great is an example of this, there are multiple forms of evidence explaining how he conquered lands, and showed no mercy. Not only did he take over ⅓ of the known world, but he gave his enemies no chance for discussion and he forced them to either change or die. he had no intention of stopping, even his main generals had to refuse his orders for him to realize what he’s doing is unnecessary, and he still planned to only postpone it. Alexander could be considered a hero, but in a general aspect, he was a villain.

Although Alexander can be considered the protagonist of Greek history, there is overwhelming evidence that suggests that he is the villain as he demonstrates the antagonistic qualities of felony, extreme impatience, and greed.

Because of what he had achieved, what he had conquered, it was hard for many to believe that Alexander died in a drunken state. Despite the mistakes he made; neglecting his men’s wishes, executing anyone who disobeyed him, putting others at risk because of royal propaganda, Alexander had achieved so much which is why he is great. He founded seventy cities, and twenty-five are still substantiated which shows what a legend he was. He adapted his battle plans according to the environment he was in and the enemies he was facing showing that he learnt well and skilfully used his teacher’s, Aristotle, advice. Alexander the Great has a good moral for us, if you fight for it, you can get it. In a short period of 11 years, he conquered most part of the world, that´s why he got the name of ´Great´. He was a person who was always disposed to achieve his goals; even there were obstacles in his way. As a result of his conquers, he created a mixed culture from some parts of the world that led people to create new cultures and new history.
