After being selected in the Major League draft directly out of high school, and without playing a single game at the minor league level, Kaline became a member of the Detroit Tigers at age 18, appearing in a few dozen games during his first year. But Kaline’s breakout year came a season later in 1955, when he became the youngest winner of the batting crown, dethroning another Tiger legend who had previously held that accolade: the Georgia Peach, Ty Cobb. Throughout his twenty-two year tenure as a Detroit Tiger’s player, where he spent every season of his career, Al Kaline achieved both personal and team honors. While not considered the best at any one category, Kaline was lauded by one of his managers for the way he excelled in all-around ability, …show more content…
Although extremely talented, his tendency to play through pain, including facial, foot and shoulder injuries were the factors that helped him become a favorite among fans. Kaline often chose to lead by example, rather than expressing his emotions through words, which only added to his fandom, as supporters of the team came to respect him as a reserved but competitive player who did everything in his power to win. My Grandmother, who worked in a factory for Ford during Kaline’s playing days, recalls the Tiger as “ A gentlemen in every sense of the word, who was looked up to by Greg and other children as a role model for the way he carried himself and looked after his family… too many players care more about themselves, rather than how they might represent their team, but not him.” In many ways, Al Kaline was a throwback player in comparison to the current game, and in a time period in which the culture surrounding baseball was in flux, his style was more traditional; he was never involved in controversy over contracts, took-pay cuts for the betterment of his team, had no agent,

Credibility is something that takes a lot of time to gain, but can be lost in an instance. When someone or something is credible that means they are easily trusted or believed in because of what they have done in the past. For example Nike lost some credibility when new came out they were producing their products in sweatshops across the world. However since that they have worked on that problem and gained back their credibility, but it took some time. Credibility is a great quality to have, it means you are trustworthy and people respect you. Furthermore Alex Rodriguez is another example that shows why credibility is an important quality and how cheating affects it.
While he may seem he couldn’t have been any better on the field, he was just as great off the field. Clemente knew that leadership and social responsibility in the Latino world was also a part of his career (Regalado 679). In fact, he stated, “Lots of kids will try to imitate me, and maybe I will have the chance to do some good for people,” in an interview with the New York Times (Regalado 679). Clemente’s presence on and off the field challenged the misconceptions about Latino players, especially those from Puerto Rico, by the typical American at the time. Driven by the need to succeed, he emerged as a symbol for not only Latino recognition but also Puerto Rican (Regalado 683).

In 1954 he was in an automobile accident caused lower back pain that recurred for the rest of Clemente's career. He had injuries like wayward disks in his back, bone chips in his elbow, stomach disorders, and tension headaches. Another part of the problem seemed to be communication with other people. Clemente was always a strong promoter of Hispanic players and Hispanic pride and culture, for he felt that Latin players did not receive the recognition or respect they deserved. The topic of Robinson’s role in integration has long been a point of discussion amongst baseball historians. Researchers have accumulated thousands of accredited documents and interviews with friends and team mates such as short stop, Pee Wee Reese, and team owner, Branch Rickey. However, few journalists have asked why Robinson was selected and what was Branch
