Running head:
Airport Security

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Abstract
Through the history of aviation the importance of airport security has steadily increased. Since the disastrous terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, many changes have taken place at airports to prevent such an attack from occurring again. The purpose of this paper is to: outline airport security procedures, discuss the different technologies involved with airport security, as well as examine the components of airport security. In addition I will also discuss the Transportation Security Administration's role in our nation's airport security.

In the future, the number of airports to be inducted into this program is expected to go up to 40 in order to provide a broader test base, of at least 10%. The TSA has an extensive research and development branch as well. The mission is geared towards anticipating future threats to civil transportation security. In so doing, programs are conducted that accelerate and expand promising technologies to the point of operational test and evaluation. Technologies that have successfully gone through this process have been passed to the Security Equipment Integrated Product Team for deployment in our nation's airports. The research and development goal is to develop systems that are fully integrated into the aviation system; are highly automated, utilizing the strengths of a variety of technologies; and are geared to optimizing the screener's operational performance. The Transportation Security R&D Division has divided its functions into four interrelated program areas: Explosives and Weapons Detection, Aircraft Hardening, Human Factors, and Airport Security Technology Integration. Each program area makes a significant contribution toward achieving the goals of the transportation security system of the future. The Division conducts R&D projects to develop technologies to protect three major entry points to the aircraft or
The air rescue and fire fighting facilities are critical to airport operation. While there is need for preparedness in handling accidental fire or conducting air rescue just incase incidences of similar nature occur, these facilities require adequate security concerns. Moreover, the positioning of these facilities makes them potential for security vulnerabilities. At times, the public
The September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks forever changed the way our air travel industry operates. It affected the government, the airlines, airports, employees, and passengers alike. There was not as much of a threat of terrorism before 9/11, so airport security was not nearly as thorough, and at times intrusive as it is today. Through the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration, the evolving threat of terrorism has not been successful in carrying out another 9/11 style attack.
In conclusion, many things changed since the 9-11 attack and one of them was TSA and that has really secured airport security a lot. The goal for TSA was to make airport security safer and it has successfully accomplish their goal. Even though September 11, 2001 affected us and still does we still manage to keep our airport security safer and in a higher level.
Following the attacks of 9/11 the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has implemented ample amounts of programs that bolster the overall transportation security environment. For example, the employment of Air Marshals, surface/aviation transportation security inspectors, Behavioral Detection Officers, Transportation Security Officers, local law enforcement, security personnel, and even canine teams have been introduced to enhance detection capabilities (Forest & Howard, 2013). More importantly, improving screening protocols for checked luggage, carryon items, and cargo screenings were all vital developments. In order to properly screen all previously mentioned items, increased funding for enhancing security technology systems was a priority (Forest & Howard, 2013). For example, TSA uses various x-ray devices to provide advanced imaging technology to screen for metallic and non-metallic threats, including weapons and explosives, which may be concealed under clothing (Forest & Howard, 2013). All of which, allow mass transits infrastructure such as airports to mitigate potential
Just recently there has been uproar over airport security and the use of body scanners on passengers. After 9/11 many airlines have toughen up their security measures in order to prevent this tragic accident to ever occur again. In order to improve security and make our lives a lot safer airlines have implemented many different types of technology. Technology aids airline security to see what passengers are possibly carrying under their clothing. Making passengers go through X-Ray screenings can not only prevent passengers from boarding a plane with harmful equipment but it can also deter the thought of someone actually making an attempt to board while carrying a weapon. Other technological advancements such as surveillance cameras are being

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been deemed the busiest airport in the world for the past 17 years straight (Mutzabaugh, 2015). One huge aspect of having such consistent success over the years has been the airport’s ability to maintain a safe and secure working environment. This is particularly important on the airside of the airport where aircrafts are continually turning, burning, and finding their place among the many gates of the terminal. More specifically, the ramp at KATL is a complex stretch of concrete where aircraft, flight
There has been drastic changes to airline and airport security since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Immediately following the attacks, security measures were improved in an attempt to prevent any such attacks from occurring in the future and these measures are still being continuously refined today. Commencing instantly subsequent the terror attacks were armed air marshals, reinforced aircraft cockpit doors were designed, and training with flight crews. New government agencies have been implemented, no-fly lists have come to have much more importance, and “known traveler” programs have been implemented throughout the years since 9/11. All of these increased security measures aim to make air travel safer.
On September 11th of 2001, nineteen militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. During this event, many people lost their lives and any people lost their loved ones. In spite of what had taken place on that horrible day, the events brought out some of the most genuine hearts and minds to work. The events occurring on September 11th was an eye-opener to say the least. These terrorist attacks made airports and airport security more aware and in a way have pushed airports to progress in security. Finding new and smart ways to find dangers and saving innocent people’s lives.
As a response to the 9/11 attacks, one would expect that the TSA would improve airport security. In reality, it's just security theater. Originally, the use of metal detectors and luggage x-rays in airport security checkpoints was enough. However, on December 25, 2009, an inbound international
I believe that some people in their twenties’ put too much off especially important things and “live in the moment” without thinking of the consequence of their actions. According to Mire (2011), “…not making choices is a choice all the same” (pg.xxvi); the choice might as well be made now, because when you eventually get to that point in life, you will know what to do. Also, if there are some things you can complete now, do it then and don’t put it off till later. Just like Mire (2011) quoted from Socrates “The unexamined life is not worth living” (pg, xix). It is good to figure out who you are now, so you will not struggle with identity later. Also, I like how Mire (2011), put it “The twenties are … turbulent time, but if we can …navigate,
Airport security in the United States has been a controversial topic since the terrorist attacks of September 11th. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was established to ensure the safety and security of US airports. New regulations such as taking off shoes and full body scanners soon became the new normal in airports across the country. Travelers voiced concerns and complaints over the heightened security measures, arguing that they invade privacy and are unethical. On the other hand, Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport takes a very different approach to tackle terrorism in airports. Instead of high-tech machines, the airport focuses on the use of intelligence data and profiling to effectively identify terrorists. In the
Prior to the Bilingual Education Act of 1968, the U.S. government had a change in attitude towards bilingualism and bilingual educations. At times, there was this permissive attitude that allowed teaching through the mother tongue acceptable. As long as it was within the jurisdiction of local towns and districts, schools were allowed to teach in the child’s native language. However, there were times in which higher authorities were against languages other than English. This hostile climate would result in the drastic reduction of any type of bilingual instruction offered by the state (Nieto, 2009). The following legislations regarding bilingual education are some of the most influential in the history of
Would you ever want to die or have one of your family members die from a gun? I have had friends that experienced a family member dying from guns or firearm suicide. People in the community would feel safer from gun threats and gun violence. More Gun control laws should be enacted in the United States to stop gun violence and firearm suicide.
Airport security is necessary for the safety and efficiency of airlines today. Attacks involving airlines have been “among the deadliest in terms of human lives and economic impact,” even though relatively few attacks have occurred using airlines compared to other terrorism methods (Szyliowicz, 2011, p.2). Airport Security has been administered using a government-operated system since the Aviation and Transportation Security Act was enacted in 2001. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), now an agency of homeland security, replaced private security measures and personnel with at least 60,000 federal employees (Szyliowicz, 2011). However, privatization may be making a come-back. The following analysis will analyze
