Introduction
The business I have chosen for this investigation is ASDA superstore. This is a large chain of supermarkets throughout Britain which retails clothes, merchandise, food, and electronics etc. in this part of my course work I will briefly explain the aims and objectives of ASDA I will also explain the external factors which affect the aims and objectives of the business however I will first be talking about a brief history of ASDA.
History
The history of ASDA started in the 1920’s when some Yorkshire farmers created Hindell's Dairy Farmers Ltd. In 1949 after a period in which the company was successful the name was changed to Associated Dairies and Farm Stores Ltd. In 1965 the Asquiths chain of supermarkets created a merger with Associated Dairies and Farm Stores Ltd and called it Asquiths and dairies hence the name ASDA however in 1968 associated dairies bought Asquiths allowing one company to own the ASDA name. The 1970’s was a good decade for ASDA the company was making higher profit and this was the decade which produced the pocket tap ad that is to this day globally recognized .In the 1980’s the company successfully created the George Davis partnership which led to George. In the 2000’s ASDA began rapidly expanding in certain areas such as ASDA .com and the shopping service began expanding quickly along with ASDA living stores which began growing in the UK. In 2010’s asda has continued to grow in 2011 there were approximately 523 ASDA stores.

In a business, there are a majority of structures that are organised in a business for their employees. An example of a business that has structured their employees is Asda, which was structured their business in a hierarchical structure.
ASDA is a large organisation that operates internationally; therefore they have branches in different areas. Their main targets are families, and they do everything towards making good customer satisfaction. In order to make this possible they communicate with their customers and employees through different methods. ASDA has their strategic decisions to operate and keep the customers informed.

In this report the business I have chosen to evaluate is Tesco’s. Tesco’s is one of the largest supermarket stores around the world; it has 330,000 staff working in 3,146 stores, there are stores located in China, Turkey and Japan. Research shows that they have stores in 9 other different countries and 27 million people outside of the UK own their own club card to receive offers and discounts from Tesco’s. They sell a range of different products to suit customer’s needs. Debenhams plc is a general retailer which operates its business in the UK market and is also seeking to realise a further global market expansion. This report will mainly focus on the performance, financial position and the liquidity of Debenhams plc in 2014 and will compare with that of the previous year. A competitor in the same industry, Marks& Spencer, is chosen to make a comparison as well. The report in mainly focused on how Debenhams operated in the UK sector which includes sales from Debenhams stores in UK and online sales delivered to UK addresses. Debenhams faced challenges in 2014; the outcome for the first half was disappointing due to inappropriate sales target was set and the external factors such as market environment, as the whole retail industry has still influenced by the recession. The aims at Tesco PLC is to be a leading retail supermarket and that excellent quality services are provided whilst products such as food and clothes are of a low cost. By also having cheaper prices than competitors such as ASDA. The objectives in doing this is to increase profits by increasing sales to the maximum. This is done by providing a better service of care so that the current customers stay and attracting more customers from the competitors such as ASDA. Therefore, profit will increase due to the cause of an increase in sales. This objective is measurable due to being Tesco PLC can keep track of the volume of sales. Another objective is to minimise the prices of products of food and clothes. Tesco PLC aim for householders to have a cheaper trip by Tesco PLC offering more deals so then customers can take advantage of, so their shopping will be cheaper. Furthermore, this aim can be achieved. An extra objective is to sell more healthier food related products so that more customers will be attracted of whom are interested in a healthier lifestyle. Also, the objective of developing an online site so this will attract more customers and increase in profit due to people who may not have the time to physically go to Tesco PLC will be to shop some way.
