They all had different opinions, but many states fought together to become stronger. The biggest reason the Civil War occurred was because the North wanted to free slaves and the South did not. The biggest reasons they fought in the war were for slaves and the economy. They fought because if the South lost the war, then slavery would be abolished. They also fought because slavery made the economy outstandingly good. The more reasons they fought are because of their love for Texas and because it was their way of life.

We all think that the civil war was just about southern secession, but in reality, there were various reason and beliefs that motivated these soldiers to fight for their country. This was one of the main reasons why Southern soldiers were more passionate about the war as they were fighting for their way of life, while Northerners simply wanted to unite a split nation. Aside from saving the Union, Northerners didn’t understand the importance of slavery and believed that this war was also based on slavery as mentioned by Thomas Chamberlain: “If it weren’t for the slaves, there’d never have been no war…that’s what it’s all about, and that’s what them fellers died for…I don’t understand it at all.” (343).
Everybody knows about the Civil War, the bloodiest war in American history between the Union and the Confederacy. Not many people were informed about the reason Texas fought in this devastating war. In the year 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected as president. This was when the south had had enough. The next year in 1861 Sam Houston thought to south had absolutely no chance of winning the war so he believed the Union was a better option. The people of Texas were against this and voted to secede the Union and they were the 7th state to do so. Sam Houston did not take the oath to join the Confederacy and was forced to resign, feeling like he failed his people.
Texans fought in the civil war because of states rights. States rights means a state gets to choose if they want to follow something or not. Texas really enjoyed it’s freedom, but still wanted to be apart of the United States (Doc C). Also, no matter how hard you tried, no state upon its own mere motion could lawfully get out of the Union (Doc C). Many people who lived in Texas were furious about this, because they felt like they couldn't do anything without permission from the Union. Overall, states rights were a definite part in why Texans fought in the civil War.

Slavery caused many disputes before and during the war with Mexico.“ Mexico on achieving her independence of the Spanish Crown… decreed the abolition of human slavery.” [Doc.D] Although Mexico abolished slavery it did not stop slavery from spreading in Texas. Slavery was the primary reason Texas wanted to join the U.S. to become a slave state so the Texans could make money off of the plantations. Certain Texans wanted to have slaves so greatly they immigrated from Texas with their slaves by crossing into the U.S. border. African Americans were a very important addition to the American Civil War such as fighting and spying for both the north and the south sides. The American Civil War was a war fought in the United States between the North and South states. The war was from 1861-1865 and was because the South wanted to establish itself as a separate nation. The northern states were called the Union and the southern states were called the Confederate. Between the north and south states were the Border States, which did not belong to either of the sides. The Border States included Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Kentucky and Missouri. In the north, slavery did not exist but the south was the opposite. In the war, the north and south states fought against each other while the Border States were neutral. Before the war and during the war, African Americans were treated very unfairly compared to white people. With the various ways slavery was spread throughout the geography of the United States, these variations formed different cultures and conflicting laws on slavery. Due to inconsistent systems of slavery, it resulted in the Civil War, dividing the North and the South over the issues of slavery. In the end of the Civil War, many individuals with every sense of positive intentions gave opportunities and support to freed slaves developing into beneficial members for the nation. The United States came together as a nation to solve the issues of slavery, freedom, and the reorganization problems particular to African Americans. It is seen throughout our history all efforts to solve these issues but sadly African Americans still face many of the these problems today. These problems and issues of the 20th century needed to be solved by the leadership of African Americans, for their African American community. W.E.B Du Bois is a tremendous example of an African American leader for what was best for the United States at that time.
