It is hard to determine the percentage of the population that compromises each ethnic group due to the lack of census in the countries for many years. The country has NO bodies of water, is landlocked, and is mostly made up of rugged mountains.

Throughout history, different ethnic and religious groups have faced discrimination by other members of society. In Afghanistan, there are two major ethnic groups: Hazaras and Pashtuns. Hazaras are one of Afghanistan's largest ethnic minorities, accounting for up to 20 percent of Afghanistan's 30 million inhabitants. Their Asiatic features and language set them apart from other Afghans. Their religion also sets them apart, as the Hazaras are primarily Shia Muslims and most Afghans follow the Sunni branch of Islam.

But when the afghan rebels came to power in 1992 they killed many people and this is when a lot of people started leaving Afghanistan in fear. It was one of the most devastating times in Afghan History. The people who felt in danger fled to neighbouring countries like Pakistan, Iran and Russia. It was very hard for these people to leave their country and come to an unknown place, where everything like custom, language, religion, culture, and tradition is alien and different to them.

The national anthem of Afghanistan mentions as many as fifteen ethnicities! Therefore, a multiethnic country, like Afghanistan has an assortment of ethnicities. Afghanistan is made up of Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, Aimaks, Turkmens, Balochs, Pashais, Nuristanis, Gujjars, Arabs, Brahuis, Pamiris. Since Afghanistan is a multiethnic country, it has adopted much culture from the ethnic groups of Afghanistan. Pashtuns, make up 42% of Afghanistan and make up the majority of the society. Afghanistan’s culture has a merge of all 15 ethnicities in it and it is expressed in The Kite Runner. In The Kite Runner diverse aspects of Afghanistan culture are uttered in example, public execution.

Afghanis is the currency, not the people. They are called Afghans. And they have a country that, for all of its hardship and heartache, they are still proud to call it their home. Islam is the religion of Afghanis and governs much of their personal, political, economic and legal lives. Among certain obligations Muslims are said to pray about five times a day - at dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset, and evening. Friday’s the Muslim holy day. Government offices and businesses at times close on Thursday, making the time to relax are Thursday and Friday. During the holy month of Ramadan all Muslims must fast from dawn to dusk and are only working six hours per day. Fasting to means no eating, drinking, cigarette smoking, or gum chewing.
