Henry S. Haskins wrote, “Proud souls in the true sense are never humbled by adversity”. Where you invest your time, says a lot about who you are. Whether it's making good grades in school, being a good athlete, participating in community service or simply helping somebody who is in need, whatever it is you choose to do, you're investing your time in that. I am proud of the time I have invested in my years as as West Stanly Colt. I have devoted countless hours to my school and have loved every minute of it. It was truly an honor to be a West Stanly green girl during football season. I attended every football game, led the student section wearing my green suit, and shared my colt pride with all of those around me. Whether we won or we lost, I was there to support it our colts through it all. I am a three sport athlete, …show more content…
I take pride in all that I do and I have always tried my best to represent West Stanly well. I am in the top 15 of my graduating class with a 4.46 GPA that I worked for each and every year that I have been at West Stanly. I have taken my sports achievements to higher levels, competing in the state playoffs for basketball and volleyball, and going to regionals for track. I am now using my academic achievements to tutoring during my free periods at West Stanly Middle School. I not only teach these students, but I also mentor them. I am an example of what hard work and dedication will help them achieve in their future. I plan to further my education in the fall at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I will major in Psychology with hopes to pursue a career as a Pediatric Psychiatrist. I hope that I can take my academic achievements in high school and college, and give it all back to my community. If I could think of the best word to describe me, Kiley Harless, I would have to say a proud West Stanly
After receiving the award, I continue to visit the residents at St. Barnabas and share my gifts of music, by playing the piano, flute, and leading group sing-a-longs. I throw myself into my activities and do so with a happy, humble heart. An important quality I possess includes my integrity and respect. I always uphold strong moral integrity and respect those around me. I understand that you must treat others as you would want to be treated, and to be respected, you must do the right thing even when no one is watching. I am a strong leader as I am a person who takes action and gets involved, in order to help others and the team. When I see an opportunity to be supportive and to lend a helping hand, I jump in. I am not a person who sits in the background and waits for someone else to do something. I am a go-getter, who thrives on helping those around me. I am very organized with all of my activities, both academically and socially. I input over 200%. I understand that without a strong work ethic and passion, only the minimal will be accomplished. As Class Secretary for the past four years and as upcoming National Honor Society Peer-Tutoring Coordinator, I remain organized in sending emails, marking attendance, collaborating new ideas and fundraising opportunities, and encouraging others. I am an effective communicator as I understand that each voice matters. I do not speak just to hear my own voice, and I value the thoughts of others. I speak up when I have
I choose this prompt because it looked as it was the best of the prompts fitting to me. I myself come from several different backgrounds, I also carry a lot of different talents. People like those are very unique and are very productive in diverse community, and they turn to be very productive and effective individuals in their community. The past autumn I applied to the University of Washington, which is one of the high ranking schools in the nation, so I applied to all of their 3 branches, Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma, hoping with my different unique talents and personality I will be accepted and be offered admission to one of the 3 branches. Several months later I am here talking to you, that optimism I had has become a reality, I’ve got accepted into University of Washington Tacoma and I am still hoping I will also get accept into the Bothell branch as well. Being born in Seattle, growing up here and at the same coming from both an African and Arab background is pretty unique, on the other hand being a Muslim and a practicing religious Muslim, was also something fascinating, living in America in this time, where Islamphobia was at its peak. In addition to that, being an individual who is deeply involved in the community, specifically youth affairs at a young age of 17 was very productive I can say. Summing all those qualities and talents, I told myself this will help me achieve a lot of things in the future, being a personally diverse individuals who is both academically and spiritually active and built, and in addition to the a productive young individual for the community was indeed something unique and attractive to schools and jobs in the future.
I am currently a graduating senior of Medgar Evers College Preparatory School with many credits but not necessarily the highest grades, and although I know I have the ability to be a greater student I often let my adversities get the best of me. Regardless of that I am a strong, kind hearted, dedicated, hardworking, well rounded and committed young women and student.
At Missouri Southern I wasn’t getting a good response with service work and felt no sense of a community. However, at Washburn, I immediately felt all this once I stepped into my classrooms and got myself involved by joining the Criminal Justice Association Board. I put myself in charge of volunteer activities where I’m contacting many local Topeka organizations like Big Brother and Big Sister as well as the Restoration House and finding ways to help support them. So what exactly have I set out to do at Washburn University then? I’ve set out to connect myself in a community, meet as many faces as one possibly can on this journey, and help those who need it. By becoming Washburn’s Homecoming Queen I’d say that this title tells myself that I accomplished my goal by playing the part of this person I’m looking to be. I want to set an example for whoever is watching with this honor or not, because people need these encouraging figures in their
Throughout my three years at Barnegat High School I have strived to be a respectful, responsible and influential student and athlete. I have worked hard to stand out among my peers, be dedicated to everything I do, work towards achieving my personal goals and positively influence those around me. As an individual and a young adult, I believe it is the responsibility of younger generations to work towards being the best version of ourselves we can possibly be and positively contribute to others and our community. Overall, I aspire to be a well rounded individual and character that demonstrates the qualities of respect, citizenship, and responsibility.
A path that led to this school, and the amazing experiences and opportunities I had and will continue to have throughout my last year here. Here is the place I’ve learn to lead in a classroom, develop my academic skills, and succeed in continuing my mission of helping others. I’ve grown into a woman with her own ideals and own convictions, which I just now realized has always been my goal in life. What I major in, what job I have, and who I marry will not confine my person to live a life where having one experience is
Ever since my elementary years, I have taken my education and the work I do seriously. My dedication to the qualities of scholarship, character, leadership, and service have helped me during my high school experience as high school was a eye-opener for a young girl with big dreams. A quote that is to mind when I think about what dedication to scholarship and character means to me is one by St. Jerome; “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. 'Til your good is better and your better is best.” I have always gone past the point that is the best I can do in my academics accomplishments, building my character, being a leader, and helping others. I take pride in the fact that I work hard, push myself, and excel
Throughout the past four years of high school, I have done my best to try and stay actively involved in the community. I have been presented with some amazing volunteer opportunities such as Huron Safety Town, STAR Leadership Camp, American Red Cross, and Huron High School Girl’s Basketball Biddy Program. I spent over 24 hours at Huron Safety Town where I was able to help young students, mainly those going into Kindergarten, learn how to stay safe while on the road. I was also able to spend over 24 hours at STAR Leadership Camp where I was a councilor to those going into the sixth grade. I made sure that each student understood the importance of being a leader in today's society and how important they are to Huron’s community. Through National Honor Society I have been able to maintain in constant contact, approximately 10 hours, with the American Red Cross by volunteering in monthly blood drives. I have also dedicated 16 hours of my time to those young girls interested in someday being a varsity basketball player through the Biddy Basketball Program.
Football isn’t just about going on the field and playing 4 quarters against another team every week. It’s not just those Friday nights going to watch your high school team play. Football is a brotherhood, it’s your second family. It’s making memories that you will have with you for the rest of your life. It’s the hours of preparation, sweat, tears, blood, bumps and bruises and going back out everyday just to give it your all. Football isn’t just a game that i’ve played it’s something that has shaped me into the person I am today.
My grades are my top priority at school, along with my involvement with my peers and my character. I try the fullest of my ability to be the best person I can be for myself and the people around me. I consider myself to be a very honorable character at Lampasas High School, I am a student athletic trainer, I am a member of Key Club, I am in student council, Gear Up’s Youth Congress, and I am in our local spirit club XFX. I am incredibly grateful to be able to represent our wonderful high school to our community through these activities.
It was that time of the year again, football season. Football is a sport in which I am very passionate about, I never knew I could or would be so passionate towards something, until one very specific game. It was a Saturday afternoon, the breeze was just right, the temperature was just right; not to cold and not too hot. Being the first game of the season I didn’t know if I was going to play or not. However, I was proven wrong Coach Smith hollered “Shawn!” I stood up startled at first and right then and there I knew that was my moment to shine and shine is what I did.
But the pride had 110% confidence in their selves. This may have been one of the hardest/encouraging game yet, we knew we could not lose to them. In the middle of the 4th quarter our starting quarterback had gotten injured, everyone took off their helmets and got on one knee. There was no more sound of laughter, chanting, singing. It was all serious, a teammate to us is not just a teammate, he is family. The sports med crew had ran out there and helped him, we could tell he was in a lot of pain but we knew he would be just fine. Everyone prayed and hoped he would be fine. 10 minutes later the trainers carried him off the field we didn’t know what was wrong with him yet, but we still had to continue the game. There was 5 minutes left in the quarter and the score was 35-42 with the pride still in the lead. The time went fast, with the 4th quarter coming to a end. The pride had did it, they had one by a shocking touchdown. At the end of the game we all went to our injured quarter back. We all went on one knee and smiled at each other, we now knew we had a special bond, not only in football but in our
As a Greenville High School Junior, I value education and knowledge because I want to be successful in my future career. My good grades along with honor roll status is proof I am serious. Another value close to my heart is my strong work ethic as I give my employers a full days work. I possess strong physical strength, honesty, great listening skills, strong leadership, and commitment to any task that needs completed. In addition, my strong character along with my humble personality
When I was merely five years old, I was fascinated by the sport called football. Back then I may not have necessarily understood the rules of the game, or whether we were winning or losing, but that didn’t matter because all I cared about was dressing up just like everyone in my family did and cheered when they cheered. As I grew up, I began to understand what it meant to be a fan of football, especially for one team in particular. My family, having moved here from Denver Colorado, were lifelong Denver Broncos fans. After growing up in a household filled to the brim with White and Orange John Elway jerseys, stuffed animals of the Denver Broncos mascot that littered my room, even so much as some of the plates I would eat off of had the
For a lot of kids, it’s not until it’s all said and done, and they look back on it several years later, that they realize the difference the sport made in their lives. They are proud of playing the game. Have you ever met anybody who accomplished playing four years of high school football, and at the end of that run said, ‘Man, I wish I wouldn’t have played’? It doesn’t get said. Football players aren’t perfect. Nobody is. But millions of former players, one by one, can recount the life-altering principles they learned from football. They know the value of football is the values in football. That’s why high school football – and particularly high school coaches – play such a vital role in our society. Our football coaches are on the front lines of the battle for the hearts and minds of the boys in our society.
