The boy has an internal conflict about which parent to stay with, and because his father left, he seemed to have favored him. In the novel A Death in the Family (1938) by James Agee, a family has to use these advantages in order to make it through a very difficult time. While George and I share same social aspects we also share some personal aspects with each other. Like George, I was left without a father figure in my life. George’s father and my father left around the same time in our lives, which I find particularly interesting. Our fathers left when we were between the ages of seven and ten years old. As our fathers left we were looked at as the “man of the house” in our household. This might seem like a big responsibility for young boys our age but, we established ways to make a positive result for ourselves and those affected by the situation.

The father decides that they cannot wait for the two inhabitants of the town to come along, and, even if they did, there were not enough supplies to maintain them all. The son however is the ‘faith’ within the story. He is the hope for a better future. The son is more trusting towards others and therefore becomes upset and quiet when his father doesn’t agree with him. “I’m afraid for that little boy” – The son has never seen another young boy and is frightened for him but his father shrugs off his pleas to help him and says “I know but he’ll be alright”. Towards the end of the book it appears that the father and his son become distant to each other due to their diverse personalities. It could however be seen that the son is a lot more knowledgeable about dangers and therefore does not need his father as much.

The love between the protagonists in the times of hardship is the most profound relationship in the book and the strength of it raises the standard of the novel. The relation of the father and the son is very strong and symbolizes protection to the child. They take the initiative to struggle and live in an apocalyptic place which has been completely destroyed. The father is like the soul of his son and the very last hope for the son to survive .The son finds support in his son when he goes through the stages of loneliness and despair. It is a natural way for people to rely on others for support and by survival instincts; it is deeper when there is such a close relationship between a father and a son. McCarthy in terms of characterization makes the buy very innocent as he does not know how to differentiate between the “good guys” and “bad guys”. He wants to help everyone and on the other hand the father is very strong and is wise. He lives each and every day as a normal day so that he can keep his son strong as well. In the two stories I am going to talk about today is [Golden Glass,Marigolds].In both stories the child does not have both parents in their life and it is not because of death it is lack of money and divorce.Golden Glass ted did not have a great father figure because his mom and dad split up and he stayed with his mom.In marigolds lizabeth had both parents but there were growing up during the great depression and her father did not have a job.He was all was home but never really talk with Lizabeth and her mom had a job.

For instance, even though both Wes Moore’s were brought up without a father in their home, the reality is that these absences meant something different to each of them. For Wes 1 his father died an unnecessary death due to lack of training of emergency personnel. He remembered his dad as being compassionate, loving, and kind. Wes 1 always knew that if given the choice, his father would have stood by him throughout his life. Wes 2, however, is left with negative fatherly feelings. It helps the readers recognize the need for parents and how that role is crucial in the development of human life. However, I was profoundly moved even from the first section as I read about the 'crying era', and as I kept on understanding I discovered new disclosure of God's adoration even in my own life.
