A child with smallpox suffers from painful blisters that cover his body. A person with tetanus endures involuntary body spasms that threaten to break bones. A woman with HPV clinches her eyes shut as she receives chemotherapy to treat the cancer that was caused by the virus. If you could prevent these scenarios from happening, would you? Governor Rick Perry sought to do just that, when he made Texas the first state to mandate that young girls receive the Gardasil vaccine, the leading vaccine that prevents against certain strains of HPV. Governor Perry’s new mandate will protect people from a painful, and sometimes fatal, disease. While the decision has gone under fire from people
Here I am captured in this irritating street where all I can do is listen to music and look at Facebook. I am waiting for cars to start moving and continue with their destination. Little do I know that ahead of me is a two hour traffic. I am already tired, bored, and furious. I cannot believe I took this road home instead of my usual route. Why do I have to try new things? I should stick to what I know. While I sit in the drivers’ sit I am still wondering why I had the bright idea of taking a new way home, a way that I had little knowledge of.
In the Argentinean city of Mar del Plata, nobody ever drives slower than 65 miles per hour, including inside parking garages, and at night, many motorists drive with their headlights off, because this extends the life of your bulbs (Barry,572). Seems to me that the way Barry would put it, this Argentinean city has no regards for public safety. The city Mar del Plata translates “cover your eyes” (Barry,572), which can possibly be interpreted as “death is among us, you might not want to look.” Next, Barry talks about when he rode a bus in China. From his visit in China, Barry discovered that it’s not only personal transportation where people are driving recklessly, but public transportation is doing it as well.
On the road, motorcyclists receive a special kind of hospitality from other riders- hand waves, head nods, extended feet- acknowledging they are a part of a select group of like-minded individuals seeking enlightenment. Marine riders experience an associated friendliness across the world, and a greater connection to their surroundings. Motorcycling immerses a rider in his or her surroundings, forcing interaction using all the senses. Part of being a motorcyclist requires a rider to stop worrying about anything which does not affect the ride. A Marine who rides become less enraged by others’ actions on the road; that rider must constantly try to reach a zen-like state when focusing on speed, posture, vehicle position, road conditions, hazards, and more.
The town of Halton Hill’s population includes the areas of Georgetown and Acton and other communities such as Erin, Oakville, Burlington and Milton regions. This is what is considered to be my community because these are the many places that I am visiting most often and they are always referred to together as “Halton Hills Region” (p.5, 2011). With the substantial increase in population in the Halton Hills region, more specifically Georgetown, there should be a strong demand for a public transit system to counteract all of the environmental disturbances that are being caused due to this increase. One of the things that is happening is that there are so many trees they are cutting down in order to expand and grow the population with houses being built. Statistics are showing that the population of Halton Hill’s region will expand by 54% over the next 20 years (p.5, 2011). By the year 2031, employment rates will increase by 75%, leaving Halton with 42,100 jobs being offered (p.5, 2011). With this rapid influx of citizens, this will only increase the demands of travel to get to these work places as well as other destinations (p.5, 2011). Over the past couple of year’s the traffic congestion on the major roads in Halton Hills such as Trafalgar Road and Regional Road 25 with individuals trying to get to and from work. There used to be very little traffic in these areas, however since Halton Hill’s has continued to expand, the utilization of automobiles has significantly increased due to the fact there is no public transit system. The Transportation Demand Management in Halton Hill’s is noticing the increase in automobiles stating that there needs to be a major shift in more efficient ways of transportation, yet there still has been nothing improvised (p.7, 2011). The Transportation Demand
The small town of San Tan Valley is plagued with horrible traffic, and it has become an enormous burden to its residents. The town has three entrances however it seems that everyone has simultaneously chosen one of the entrances to bombard causing havoc. According, to Suburbstats.org, the population of San Tan Valley is 81,000 people. It is imperative that we choose are entrances wisely otherwise this madness will continue. I used pathos to persuade my audience, the residents of San Tan Valley, into making more strategic and beneficial choices on the roads to take on their local commute.

Have you ever considered taking the buses, not car, to your destination? According to his essay “The Bus, a Modern Panacea,” Lester Detroit states that VTA system offers a fundamental solution for not only the SJSU student but includes the majority who commutes to school or work. He claims that cars have the negative side effects for the environment problems; furthermore, cars are the problem of both traffic congestion and wasting time and money. He insists that students should “drop their car culture and create a new bus culture.” Bus is the “cure-all solution” for students. As for students, I strongly disagree with Detroit’s point of view that VTA system is a suitable transportation for students to commute. It is important for students to realize that not a lot of people know how to transit, taking bus is inconvenient, safety concern, and pollution.
American culture has projected itself onto the automobile, imparting a sense of Manifest Destiny. In a car, the driver owns the road. Driving is an entitlement, a privilege, a right. The driver creates his or her own social space within the car, which becomes a symbolic boundary between the self and Other. Only friends, family, and
This research paper will look at social norms and behavioural patterns in different metropolitan environments among various different groups of road users, paying special attention to how these groups interact with one another. My chosen method of research for this study was participant observation. I traveled for the next few days alone. It was a struggle to find a source of food everyday. I was running low on energy and feeling dehydrated. It was getting to the point where walking through the sand was a struggle. I have gone without food for the last few days because of exhaustion, but I tried to keep moving. I could feel my body reaching its limits. I had gone too long without food, and the water I had was not quenching my thirst. A short time later, while trudging through the sand, I tripped. I laid there not having the strength to lift my body weight. I could barely fathom how death was so close. I didn’t want to accept it, but I had no fight left in me, no strength. My vision started to go in and out, and I slowly surrendered to
The Just-In-Time (JIT) philosophy is a methodology aimed to reduce the cycling time of goods and commodities during the production and the response time between the suppliers and the customers (Ashburn, A., 1977) which means the manufacturers who adopted the JIT philosophy were able to produce high-quality products with minimum waste and reduced costs. There is a large body of literature addressing the concept and benefits of the JIT philosophy (Mahmoodi and Martin, 1994). JIT philosophy is primarily reached in the western stores in late 1970s and has successfully drawn the attentions in the western countries in recent years.
