You may have discovered that there are varying opinions regarding the “renaming” of a child upon adoption. Some feel that renaming a child is dismissing their heritage and their personal history/story. In other situations, it seems obvious that the child could benefit from a different name (cases of abuse or criminal neglect or violent crime, etc.) We acknowledge the seriousness of the discussion and support the right of adoptive parents to determine what is best for their family and their child. Yet, there are those instances in which the adopted child does need to be renamed or when an infant adoption leaves adoptive parents in search of the name that fits their baby perfectly. There are countless options, but some of our favorite baby names can be found in Old Hollywood, Shakespeare’s plays, and on the Broadway stage.
