Before Adolf Hitler came into power, Germany was a suffering country. Going through the Great Depression in 1929, Germany was struggling with one in three Germans unemployed and needed another option to turn to for help, this became Hitler’s chance. Another factor that contributed to Hitler’s rise to power was the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was unhappy with the Treaty of Versailles at the time because it included loss of land and humiliated the Germans, and Hitler promised to rid of this and change Germany for the better.

Hitler went to extreme lengths to ensure that the Jews and communists were wiped out of Germany. In Hitler’s eyes, only people with blonde hair and blue eyes were accepted, other people were “enemies.” Between 1933 and 1938, Jews were denied of civil rights. All German Jews lost protection of the law, physical violence was the main method used to exterminate the Jews. From March 1933, Hitler ensured that there were storm-troopers standing outside of Jewish stores to turn customers away. From September, Jews were not allowed to buy or own land. 1935 was a very bad year for the Jews as they were excluded from restaurants, parks, public pools/rivers and public buildings. Jews and communists weren’t allowed to vote from 1935. The Nuremberg Laws banned marriages between Jews and non Jews. The Nuremberg Laws 1935 state “1. Marriages between Jews and citizens of German or kindred blood are hereby forbidden. Marriages despite this ban are void. 2. Extramarital intercourse between Jews and citizens of Germany or kindred blood is forbidden.” In this time, Jews were constantly insulted in schools, newspapers and everywhere they went.
