One of the most disastrous turning points in history was Abraham Lincoln's assassination. His assassination took place on April 14, 1865 in Washington D.C. He was watching a play with his family and friends. While he was watching the play, Lincoln was having a great time and didn’t notice John Wilkes Booth slipping in from behind. Booth shot him in the head immediately and climbed up onto the stage. He started yelling Virginia’s national anthem. Many people thought this was a part of the production, but some thought this was a bit strange. When Booth was trying to escape, he broke his leg but still managed to get on his horse and escape.
